Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant is all set to purchase a minority stake in French soccer club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to reports. The deal, expected to be announced in the coming days, would make the two-time NBA champion the latest American athlete to invest in a European soccer club.

KD would be joining a PSG team that has become a behemoth in France’s top flight, as they have won 10 Ligue 1 championships in the last 12 years, including the last three seasons. This was after a huge investment from Qatar.

The Slim Reaper’s involvement with PSG extends beyond his investment, it was also reported that he met with the club’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi last week as well as toured the club’s facilities. Al-Khelaifi then praised Kevin Durant and expressed his excitement about working together.

Furthermore, KD’s reported investment in the French soccer giants now follows a trend of wealthy Americans buying into European soccer clubs. Four-time NBA champion and recent Olympic MVP LeBron James owns a minority stake in Liverpool F.C., while former NFL stars J.J. Watt and Tom Brady have invested in Burnley F.C. and Birmingham City F.C., respectively.

Will Kevin Durant return to the 2028 Olympic team?

It has been generally assumed that the 2024 game might have been Kevin Durant’s last run with the USA. However, his status on home soil for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles is uncertain, but Team USA officials are reportedly open to his return.

KD who recently became Team USA’s all-time leading scorer, was noncommittal when asked about playing in the 2028 Games. Despite the uncertainty, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that Team USA officials would give Durant a “provisional yes” if he wanted to play in the 2028 Olympics.

I would not rule out KD playing, and I talked with Team USA officials, and they would give him a provisional yes right now.

However, Durant will be 39 years old during the Los Angeles Olympics and played a key role in Team USA’s gold medal win in Paris where he averaged 13.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. His health, age, and injury status at the time could be a factor in his decision, as he missed exhibition contests before the Paris Games due to a calf strain.
