Kevin Garnett feels Kobe's mentality gives him an edge over Kyrie Irving in terms of the game.
Kevin Garnett picks Kobe Bryant over Kyrie Irving as the most skilled player in the NBA, feels Bryant's use of his mind led to greatness
Kyrie Irving is universally known as one of the most skilled basketball players in the world. His skills are the reason why he has been able to make difficult shots go in and beat defensive schemes. But former champion Kevin Garnett believes the late great Kobe Bryant was a more skilled player.
On the latest episode of KG Certified, Matt Barnes asked the former champion who he thinks is more skilled between the two. Garnett replied in favor of the Mamba without blinking an eye.
Kobe, you tripping. Man listen, Kobe turned the Volkswagen body into a Bugatti. Real sh*t. He wasn't nothing extra, he wasn't no super athlete. That n**** king of mind boy.James Harden said
The former Boston Celtics superstar has played against both Kobe Bryant and Kyrie Irving, although at different times of his career. But he had no doubt in his mind that Bryant was leagues apart.
One reason Kevin Garnett mentioned in the interview could suggest why he thinks of the late Los Angeles Lakers great as more skilled. He referred to Bryant’s mind, the famed Mamba Mentality. The late superstar used to use his mind to make him do unreal things on the basketball court. It was evident when, even after going down with an Achilles tear, ‘the Mamba’ continued to score the free throws before exiting the game.
It was also evident when he scored 60 points in his last game, at the age of 37 and with a body that was not holding up. Kobe Bryant’s mind mentality him better. Kevin Garnett feels Kyrie Irving has an abundance of skills on the ball but has never done anything otherworldly like Bryant did.
Kyrie Irving admits losing his ‘sh*t a little bit’ in playoff game in Boston
In the Dallas Mavericks’ media session yesterday, reporter Grant Afseth asked Kyrie Irving how he would handle the animosity Boston Celtics fans will show him during the NBA Finals. In response, Irving admitted their previous game in Boston had got on his nerves.
Last time in Boston I don't think that was the best, everyone saw me flip off the birds. Kind off lose my sh*t a little bit. That wasn't a great reflection of who I am and how I like to compete on a high level. Wasn't a great reflection on what it means to control your emotions in that type of environment. I've been able to grow since then. Of course it's going to be a hectic environment, but I'm looking forward to it.Kyrie Irving said
Irving mentioned that what he did back then was not what he would have liked. Now he is more mature and will try to win the hostile Celtics crowd back.
He had previously admitted that he does not have a good relationship with the crowd at TD Garden. But now he wants to ensure that even if they will target players, it should be him who deals with it. He would not want his Mavs teammates to handle the crowd.
Kyrie Irving will go into battle against the Boston Celtics on the 6th of June to start the NBA Finals. It will be interesting to see how he manages the opposition crowd.
