The 2024 NASCAR Cup season has been a nightmare for Martin Truex Jr. to say the least. He came into the season determined to make it memorable after the disaster of the championship chase in 2023, and this year being his last one as a full-time racer. But despite a strong start, he failed to win a single race in the regular season and since July has been under delivering in the No:19 Camry.
Martin Truex Jr.’s performance slump was marked with him getting into other people mess or get used up by fellow driver during restarts. He encountered the same faith last week at Watkins Glen and This prompted a rant from the veteran, targeting drivers such as Kyle Larson due to their over aggressive driving style.
Now, 2014 Cup champion Kevin Harvick has made a concerning claim about the No:19 Toyota driver via his podcast. He pointed out that the veteran is done with NASCAR and the Next-Gen era style of racing. Harvick believes Truex Jr.’s attitude suggests that he is already on the road for retirement despite eight more races left in the season.
I think Martin’s done with it. Listening to his interview after the race, I think he’s obviously down the road to retirement. Frustrated with the style of racing that comes with this particular car.Kevin Harvick said via Hapy Hour podcast.
Denny Hamlin supports Martin Truex Jr.’s rant
Joe Gibbs Racing teammate of Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin has come forward defending the lack of respect rant of the No:19 Toyota driver. He asserted that unlike in the past, there is a drop in respectful racing, most often in the green-white-checkered situations that needs to be addressed.
It’s different now than what it used to be. There’s certainly not a whole lot of respect among the drivers, especially in these green-light-checkered situations. We see it over and over, year after year and it just keeps getting a little worse each year. There’s just no regard anymore.Denny Hamlin said.
For a veteran like Martin Truex Jr. who is known for his respectful racing style, being involved in dramatic moments in the Next-Gen is demotivating. So it will be interesting to see if the veteran will be able to ignore the lack of respectful racing for the time being and be productive at Bristol to win premotion to R-12.
