The 2024 NASCAR Cup season hasn’t been the best for Chris Buescher. He was consistently performing better than his teammate Brad Keselowski in the last two seasons of the Next-Gen era, but this season the veteran has outperformed him.  He is one of the drovers in the playoff bubble, looking to lock in a spot with just two races left in the regular season.

One of the most consistent claims that was made by Chris Buescher amidst his position on the playoff table was he isn’t concerned about the points and comes to races with victory in mind. It’s a comment that many drivers in his position says. Kevin Harvick while talking about it asserted that the drivers are telling the whole truth and called BS on it.

You have to keep points in mind. These guys will all tell you — I heard Chris Buescher say it a hundred times this weekend, ‘Ah, we’re just out here trying to win, we’re trying to do this.’ That’s a bunch of shit. You are not out there — you know exactly — if you don’t, it’s your own fault that you don’t know who you’re racing.
Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.

He asserted that the drivers who are in the playoff bubble would always look into how many points he needs to progress and how many his rivals have. Even stage points would be a huge factor for them as well, hence driver would be wanting to know to know every freaking thing.

Need to know exactly who you’re racing, how many points ahead they are, how many points behind you are, if you’re in position to go out and score stage points, how many stage points you can score. You need to know every freaking thing that’s going on.

Kevin Harvick claims it’s a nonsense answer given by racer

While further talking about the point, Harvick re-iterated that such claims from the drivers are BS and they sue it as an easy way get away from penalties. He asserted that if one driver is not concerned about points in such situation, then they aren’t paying enough attention to racing.

So, I don’t like hearing all that BS because you need to know. That’s an easy excuse to try to get out of an interview but that’s the most nonsense answer that I’ve ever heard in my life. You know all the scenarios and if you don’t, you’re not paying attention.

The ex-SHR driver does have a point with his claims as not every driver in the playoff bubble comes in with hopes of winning the race unless it is Daytona. So, most of them would have points target on their mind and will be concerned about their rivals race as well.
