The 2025 NASCAR Cup season had impressive start with The Clash at the Bowman Gray Stadium. Chase Elliott’s notable win, Ryan Blaney’s run from P23 to P2, the wild moments and the passionate fans made it a race to remember. But 2014 Cup champion Kevin Harvick wants NASCAR to get rid of the race, alongside the All-Star race.

Kevin Harvick, in his Happy Hour podcast, highlighted that he really doesn’t want the exhibition races to be part of NASCAR, instead want them to be a point race. He further pointed out that it would be hard to move the race from The Madhouse, owing to the impressive fan base and how impressive the racing was.

I think we should get rid of it. The All-Star race and The Clash… think that what we did last night was spectacular and maybe it stays an exhibition race, but imagine if that was a points race…It would be hard to take it away from Bowman Gray at this point because of the reaction to the fans and how good the racing was.

Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.

He then pointed out that NASCAR should combine Bowman Gray, Hickory and other tracks, and create a short-track series within the schedule. He wants a short track mini-series in the summer series. It can be a grassroot series that will help to revive the iconic tracks.

But I almost think that you could try to make all these events some style of points race that you almost create a short-track series within the schedule. Where you had Bowman Gray, Hickory, pick another, any other short track across the country where you could start having this short track, maybe it’s a summer series.

Kevin Harvick added.

Kevin Harvick wants a $1 million prize pool for the summer series

Later giving his opinion on the proposed series, Kevin Harvick pointed out that he wants NASCAR to make the grassroot series real and have a prize pool of over $1 million. He sees this as the best real alternative for the bracket challenge of Denny Hamlin, which is an imaginary series.

Instead of the bracket idea where you have this bracket, let’s just do it for real and make it real life and if you win the short-track summer series or grassroots series, whatever you want to call it, then you win a million bucks and put some sort of bonus that’s real life instead of some sort of bracket that’s artificial.

Kevin Harvick said.

The comments from Kevin Harvick seems to have some valid points, but it would be really unlikely to see NASCAR making these changes as there are a lot of positive benefits to having these exhibition races. At the same time, it would be interesting to see if Bowman Gray can ever host a points race in the Cup series.
