Before LeBron James played in what became his final season with the Los Angeles Lakers, former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate and close friend Kevin Love was rumored to be interested in a reunion.
However, that did not work out since the purple and gold franchise did not have any more space to accommodate another player. Moreover, they had already started turning the wheels to cater to their new franchise cornerstone in Luka Doncic.
Bringing in another of James’ friends was not going to cut it, especially if the said friend is a veteran player on their last legs. That is why he ended up staying with the Utah Jazz even though there were reports that Love was attempting to buy out his contract.
Now, the former fifth-overall pick is without a contract for next season. That leaves Kevin Love with the opportunity to join any team of his choosing. But it seems he wants to choose one particular one.
Love’s agent, Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management, has been in touch with the Philadelphia 76ers’ front office since James picked Philadelphia, sources told ESPN.
Dave McMenamin revealed
The ESPN reporter did note that for the veteran to join the Philadelphia 76ers, the franchise would have to cut someone. However, they may be tempted to do so if it means keeping their newest and most important player, LeBron James, happy.
Fans have varied reactions to Kevin Love’s interest in reuniting with LeBron James
Those who have been following all the news about LeBron James’ move to Philadelphia believe that he already has a good team around him. Then, when they heard this rumor of Kevin Love wanting to play alongside his close friend again, they had mixed reactions.
Some felt that it would be a good thing for the 76ers to have another championship-winning veteran and the King’s close friend in the locker room. On the other hand, others weren’t sure. They felt that Love would be taking up the place of a younger and more athletic player, something the Sixers need. Check out examples of those reactions below.
Please God no.

This geriatric arthritis group should be good for a seven or eight seed or even a play in depending on how much Embiid plays.

To do what? Pass towels and cups of gatorade? Kevin Love in 2026 is even more useless than Klay Thompson is right now. Both guys 10 years too late.

The 76ers could look to let go of one of the players on their roster to make room for Kevin Love. It might not cost them much in terms of salary cap or luxury tax. However, it will be a tough decision to decide whom to let go.
Kevin Love could be what the 76ers need to break in their team
One of the major problems analysts and fans cited about the retooled Philadelphia 76ers is how the team will have to work hard to build chemistry. Only then can they expect to perform to their potential.

The league’s best teams are already playing as a unit, and that will only continue to grow next season. Therefore, LeBron James and his teammates will have to work faster and harder than the rest.
This is where Kevin Love can come in. While his 6.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 16.6 minutes of action can help the team whenever needed, his ability to build relationships will be of greater importance.
It is not as if the current team is not working on it, as their myriad workout sessions, rounds of golf, and other activities are not helping. But when a veteran with an accomplished resume and who happens to be funny at the same time leads the process, it could become a lot easier.
