Kevin Owens wants the 40-man Royal Rumble
WWE Royal Rumble
In recent times, Kevin Owens has been looking like the only formidable force who can take on Roman Reigns. Owens has been one of the most impressive wrestlers for the company since long. But he is yet to have an iconic Royal Rumble moment.
This year, he won’t be seen in the Battle Royal styled match. Instead, during the PPV, he will be facing Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. But he still remains a fan of the Royal Rumble match. Owens recently discussed how Royal Rumble can be made more exciting.
This discussion was recently released on a video by Fightful. Multiple WWE legends and Superstars discussed their Royal Rumble experiences. On the feature, Owens mentioned that WWE could add even more wrestlers to the match.
40-man Royal Rumble match
Normally, a Royal Rumble match features 30-WWE Superstars. But WWE has tried 40-wrestlers in the 2011 edition of Royal Rumble.
“They had done the 40-man Rumble one year, which I really liked. I wish we’d go back to that. The more people involved, the better. The longer it is, the better. If I were to pick any changes to make, I would add more people.”
A 30-man Royal Rumble match usually lasts a little over an hour. In 2011, the 40-man match lasted for 69 minutes. The match was really exciting. But one of the issues that WWE faced was that the roster lacked depth to fill 40 iconic spots.
But the match was filled with some really iconic moments. CM Punk dominated a major part of the match. The match also saw the return of Booker T and Diesel. Alberto Del Rio ended up winning the match.
WWE surpassed this mark by organizing the Greatest Royal Rumble in 2018. It was for a show in Saudi Arabia and featured 50 WWE wrestlers. That felt a little long. But a 40-man match seems doable. WWE even has a roster now that can fill up the spots.
Royal Rumble airs live on 31st January, 2021.
