“Why do tennis players get a second serve?”: Kevin Pietersen asks puzzling question as Yuvraj Singh gives witty reply

Kevin Pietersen

Kevin Pietersen is a cricket commentator, conservationist, and former England international cricket player. Recently Pietersen asked a rather puzzling question on twitter, which seemed to spark funny conversations in the thread.

In his tweet, Pietersen asked the question: “Why do tennis players get a second serve but golfers don’t off the tee?”

To answer Kevin Pietersen’s question, the most accepted answer is that players are allowed two serves so that they can serve to the full of their abilities. If a player was given only one serve, they would not take many chances, and would give easy to return serves. It also allows the server to have an advantage, which is the nature of the game. If a player doesn’t hit their serve in the correct service box on their first serve, they are given a second opportunity to hit the ball in the correct box called a second serve. If a player misses two serves consecutively, he or she has double faulted and loses the point as a result.

Answering Pietersen’s question on the Twitter thread, cricketer Yuvraj Singh came up with a witty reply. He replied saying “Why do golfers get a chance to win on 2nd 3rd or 4th day if they make the cut after playing badly in first day and tennis players don’t ?”

The answer given by Singh is quite true, as golfers have several days over several holes to make up any lost points on the first day. Even golfers who have a mediocre or bad start can catch up with the front runners, especially after making according changes to their game the next day.
