The rivalry and hatred between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov will never really conclude. For most of last year, it was the Irishman who laughed loudly, inflicting verbal damage to Nurmagomedov long since their fight in 2018.

It started with the Russian government seizing Nurmagomedov’s assets in a tax dispute case. McGregor labeled his rival’s tax troubles as “typical rat behavior” on social media. However, since then, the tides have changed and the Dagestani star appears to be getting the upper hand by piling on verbal damage by reminiscing his rivalry with the Irish fighter.

Towards the end of last year, McGregor was found guilty in an assault case which made the MMA community turn on him. Since then, the Irishman has stayed silent, but remains in training to come back to the UFC for the White House card. Meanwhile, Nurmagomedov is enjoying retirement and roasting McGregor in an interview at the Miftaah Institute.

One thing is really, really beautiful in this world: when you don’t like somebody, you go inside the cage, you smash him, and they give you money. Outside of the cage, if you do this, you go to jail. I was waiting for that moment for so long. I could not only fight but also talk to him. I used that moment to enjoy. It was my vacation.

Khabib Nurmagomedov has his way with words even though he is not as outspoken as his rival. His famous one-liner comments remain among the best in UFC history. For now, both fighters will go on a different path far away from each other. The Irishman is possibly nearing his UFC return.

Given his budding relationship with President Donald Trump, there is a possibility of him headlining the White House card. As such, McGregor has posted training videos to hype up his return after multiple years away from the Octagon.

Meanwhile, Nurmagomedov will corner Islam Makhachev at UFC 322 this Saturday in the main event. It remains to be seen if the Dagestani legend can coach Makhachev to the prestigious double-champ status when he faces welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena.

Khamzat Chimaev humbly rejects fighting Conor McGregor

Not just Dagestani fighters, but also Chechen fighters have their problems with Conor McGregor. In fact, Khamzat Chimaev tried to go all the way to Ireland and attack McGregor when his beef with Nurmagomedov began in 2018. Multiple years have passed since then, and ‘Borz’ is now the UFC middleweight champion.

When Chimaev’s UFC 279 weigh-in mishap happened, McGregor publicly blasted the Chechen fighter and urged the UFC to pull him from the card entirely. Ever since then, both fighters have not resorted to attacking each other on social media or on interviews. Chimaev also watched the Irishman’s documentary back in 2023 and posted it on social media.

The Irishman also congratulated the Chechen fighter after defeating Dricus Du Plessis to become the new middleweight champion. Recently, Chimaev had a Q&A session on his social media account and was asked about possibly fighting Conor McGregor. Showcasing a new side, Chimaev humbly rejected the bout and didn’t resort to any name-calling or trash-talks.

Brother Conor is too old bro. He’s finished, Salam Alaikum.

Even if McGregor was active, a fight wouldn’t be possible. The size difference and Chimaev’s status as a champion makes it difficult to book a superfight. For now, Chimaev will likely face Nassourdine Imavov next for his first title defense. Meanwhile, lightweight star Michael Chandler would likely be the next opponent for the Irishman’s return.
