“Khabib wanted a nightclub feel”- Khabib Nurmagomedov built a magnificently different atmosphere for Eagle FC 44
Chael Sonnen- Khabib Nurmagomedov
Former UFC Lightweight champion and undefeated, retired Russian mixed-martial artist Khabib Nurmagomedov aka “The Eagle“ has been successful putting on an amazing show for the first time in the USA when his promotion, Eagle FC hosted its 44th fight card. Eagle FC’s EFC 44 found the likes of UFC Hall of Famer Rashad Evans winning a fight nearly after 8 years, and former UFC flyweight title contender Ray Borg having his first Eagle FC fight and win as well.
The main event called on for a fight between MMA Legend Sergei Kharitonov and kickboxing legend Tyrone Spong in an MMA match where the former came out to be victorious via second-round TKO via ground and pound.
The event had the guests, former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo and current UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. More importantly, right a couple of days before EFC 44 took place, Eagle FC announced MMA Legend Chael Sonnen as the official analyst for their promotion and hence we got a view of “The Bad Guy” as well.
Chael Sonnen describes theatre sitting, dress code and more about Khabib Nurmagomedov’s EFC 44
Sonnen took to his Youtube channel to explain his point of view as a significant attendee of the event of EFC 44 held in FLXCast Arena, Miami, Florida, USA. “Khabib specifically wanted to give the live audience a nightclub feel…” said Sonnen “he bought in theatre-style seating, just like you’re in a movie theatre, so everybody’s got a view. You’ve got the cage, the lights, the ramps, got the cameras, you got the whole bit…
[There] was a dress code, everybody who came in limited as it was and I believe it was 300 that’s the number I will throw out there was a dress code. I don’t know specifically what it is but I don’t see a single that wasn’t in a dress. I didn’t see a single guy that did not have on a collar shirt and jacket.
And for the music when you’re dead it’s *makes woofing sounds of woofers*, right? Like everything’s bumping and the announce team and we were even told this you could curse,” says Sonnen.
What do you make of Sonnen’s explanation of the atmosphere at the first Eagle FC event held on American soil? Do you think live audience watching is one of the key ways in which you can change sport as is Khabib experimenting with Eagle FC? What do you see in Eagle FC’s potential as a multinational promotion of mixed-martial arts?
