Kirk Herbstreit reveals reason for his emotional collapse after the Ohio State national championship win over the Notre Dame

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit was evident in his feelings as he called out Ohio State’s win over Notre Dame. The national championship win for his alma mater felt like his own for reasons not necessarily known. In a recent appearance, Herbstreit revealed the reason for his overwhelming emotions getting the better of him.
Kirk Herbstreit had a lot more to endure than the sports commentator was letting on Monday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Brought to tears, the analyst took to the Pat McAfee Show to reveal the storm that prevailed behind the scenes of the screens. Speaking of his son’s health, he shared the strain from having the medicals suggesting heart replacement to seeing him in his jersey.
To add to that, he confessed to his wife’s breast cancer diagnosis which was previously unknown to everybody. Making matters worse for the ESPN analyst, his dog Ben passed away the past year.“It was almost like a perfect storm for me,” explained Kirk Herbstreit.
All the emotional accumulation was more than reason enough for Kirk Herbstreit to break down into a pint of tears. He also praised Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and the coaching staff for being there for his son and letting him stay in the program. He shared he and his wife Alison were in the booth as they watched Zak and the rest of the Buckeyes celebrate their win. The broadcaster admitted to the pent-up release it was for him.

Herbstreit also played quarterback at Ohio State from 1989-1992. Post the match, he visibly tried to keep his composure as the ESPN analysts were broadcasting live. Explaining his state, he expressed having empathy for this particular Ohio State team solely because of what they have endured and been through.
Austin Randolf called out Kirk Herbstreit’s critics while sending prayers for his family
Kirk Herbstreit is accustomed to receiving criticisms for his opinions on football that are claimed to be biased. His recent revelation of his family struggle has put plenty into perspective for people of harsh things a person might be enduring in his life behind the flashes and scripts. Alabama athlete Austin Randolph chimed in to call out the critics post the sports commentator’s confession.
Taking to X Randolph wrote that Herbstreit’s critics were “lame and corny”. Furthermore, he appreciated Kerbstreit’s work ethic and the efforts he put into the sport. Stating facts, Austin Randolph wrote that he was hired to express his opinions and that he did.

Lastly, he sent his prayers to Herbstreit’s family amid trying times. Austin wasn’t the only one to have sent the prayers to the former QB. He wrote this message reposting a tweet from ML Football’s account who also expressed their sympathy for Hersbtreit.
