As dominant as the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive line was on Thursday Night Football game against the Washington Commanders, their star kicker Jake Elliott was certainly going through something. But he couldn’t escape a discussion, as his dreadful performance became subject to mockery between Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit

If Saquon Barkley hadn’t been there, the Eagles might have ended their five-game winning streak. While the star running back recorded 146 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns, the kicker missed two field goals and an extra point.

While Herbstreit and Al Michaels were replaying Elliott’s disasters on the field against the Commanders, ESPN analyst McAfee joined in through a text sent to the College GameDay analyst. After Elliott missed the PAT attempt that cost Philly seven points, Herbstreit read aloud a text received from McAfee.

My guy Pat McAfee texted me saying we have better kicks with his kicking contest than what he’s doing right now.

McAfee was referencing the kicking contest he had organized on College GameDay for football fans to try a chance at kicking a field goal. If successful, they are rewarded with tuition money for their college. While many have failed, some truly excelled at the field goal challenge and took home the generous prize money.

However, there’s a possibility that Herbstreit may regret sharing the text from McAfee as the latter didn’t mean to share it on television, especially considering the fact that Elliott has proven himself to be a reliable kicker for Philly consistently and a bounce back may just be around the corner.

Nick Sirianni reaffirms confidence in Jake Elliott following his Week 11 struggles

As for the Eagles, the team hasn’t lost confidence in the veteran kicker over one night of struggle. While talking to the reporters post-game, head coach Nick Sirianni expressed his confidence in Elliott, highlighting his impressive track record since 2017.

Jake has been so clutch his entire career and his entire time that I’ve been here, too. Just like I would say to somebody that fumbled or dropped a pass in a moment, ‘We believe in you. You’re going to have to make a kick to help us win this football game.’ He did to get us up 16 points and 8 points or whatever it was. We have so much faith in him and that’s what you do.

Nick Sirianni said via Eagles’ official transcript

Despite the kicker’s mistakes, the Eagles came out with a stellar 26-18 triumph to mark their sixth consecutive victory and improve to an 8-2 record. Given, Elliott’s history in Philly, he deserves a pass for the troublesome Thursday night. However, if he continues with more fumbles, the team would not be able to save him from scrutiny.
