Former Golden State Warriors’ legendary point guard Klay Thompson parted ways with the franchise after 13 years together. Thompson would not have wanted this to end in the way it ended. In addition, the 4-time NBA champion opted to enter the 2024 NBA Free Agency and later signed for the Dallas Mavericks for the upcoming NBA season.

Interestingly, as per ESPN, Thompson was “miserable,” according to someone close to him. He was disappointed with how discussions with the team for a new ($23 million) deal had gone. It’s important to note that, injuries also played a big role in Thompson’s decline in the Warriors’ side, which eventually led to him leaving the decorated NBA franchise.

Furthermore, ESPN said that Thompson was unhappy because he did not feel recognized or valued by the franchise in the same way as his older Splash Brothers, Stephen Curry, 36, and Draymond Green, 34, were. He was unhappy with his dwindling status on the club, as well as the state of his game and play. In addition, the Warriors’ fans and Thompson’s teammates were deeply saddened by his departure.

On the contrary, Klay Thompson will join the Mavs, the 2024 NBA finalists for the upcoming season. With top players such as Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and P.J. Washington on the Mavs’ roster, the addition of a four-time NBA champion heightens the excitement for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Klay Thompson took offense to Warriors contract offer

Klay Thompson is not one of those personalities who would create a mountain out of a mole hill. However, with the Warriors offering him two-year $23-24 million contract offers, Thompson took offense and felt utterly disrespected by this as per ESPN. Not only that, he was also left hurt by the Warriors after they offered his teammate and dear friend Draymond Green a $100 million 4-year deal.

It’s important to note that, Thompson did not do much to hide his emotions once the season began, and his actions grew increasingly harder to control, frustrating even his locker room teammates, according to insiders. Despite Thompson making his feelings known, the Warriors did very little to convince him to extend his contract.

Additionally, after Thompson injured his knee (ACL injury) in 2019, this left him out for years which indirectly ended his career with the Warriors as they started seeking replacements. Not only that, Thompson never performed the same after his knee injury which left the Warriors making a clear choice regarding his position on the roster.
