In the 2024 NASCAR Cup season has been a nightmare for two times Cup champion Kyle Busch. He hasn’t been able to end his winless streak that started in the second half of the 2023 season and every time he has got a car capable of winning the race, he was caught up in unfortunate wrecks caused by other drivers.

As his poor performance continues, some NASCAR fans started branding Kyle Busch washed and urged him to retire, despite the fact that his performance drop was mostly due to the poor RCR car. Busch addressed these claims in a recent interview with The Athletic, while talking about the comments from NASCAR fans he agrees with, like the issues on track products and commercials.

The only one would be I know how hard it is to be in this sport, to be a driver and compete at a high level and to go out there each week but not quite get the results that you want. And to then have fans tell you you’re washed up and you can’t do it and you should retire and you should just get out of it? I’m like, “Wow, OK, cool.”

Kyle Busch told The Athletic.

He went on point out that there are multiple drivers like him who is going through similar poor streak and pointed out that some of the drivers who have won because of situations opportunities. He asserted that most of the race winners this season weren’t dominant ones and some of them backed into one.

Maybe. Are they right? But you look at the other drivers who haven’t won … and some of the drivers who have won this year have won on situational opportunities. It wasn’t like they were a dominant force or anything; they just kind of backed into one.

Kyle Busch added.

Kyle Busch agrees with a lot of fans opinions

Before addressing the washed-up racer tag, Busch pointed out that through sometimes the fans go overzealous with their opinion on the sport, most often they are right. Generally speaking, I probably actually agree a lot of times with the fans. Sometimes they get a little overzealous on some things. But on-track product, commercial times, things like that — I agree with a lot of the stuff they say.

Kyle Busch said.

The comments from Kyle Busch suggest that he really understands the perspectives of the fans and agrees with most of them, until it’s based on the facts. His serious response to the winless streak criticism shows his competitive nature and confidence in himself about the many more race wins left for him to earn in the sport.
