The 2025 NASCAR Cup series race at COTA witnessed an incident that featured Team Penske Racing’s Austin Cindric right hooking Ty Dillon. The sanctioning body decided to punish the racer for his actions, by imposing a 50 points deduction and a $50,000 fine. Veterans Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch were furious about the lack of severity of the punishment.
They wanted Austin Cindric to get suspended as in the past the multiple drivers have gotten similar punishment for right hooking. Recently two times Cup champion Kyle Busch claimed NASCAR is biased to Team Penske over the penalty and at Phoenix, doubled down on his claim declaring it was the second time Cindric is getting away with similar incidents.

I did it once and maybe twice, got off with it the first time, but definitely not the second time. Sat out a whole weekend, two more races the second time. You know that’s not his first offense, I don’t know if it’s his second offense. Like I said, some guys get off on based off who I think their last name is.
Kyle Busch said, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports.
He then recalled how he and Bubba Wallace has gotten suspended for such mistakes and demanded NASCAR to be consistent with their implementation of the rules.
Yeah I mean, Bubba got it, right? At Vegas. I got it before so, I think there’s a couple of other guys who have got it. … Yeah. Rules change every week. … No. That’s, you should know that going in, you want to pull that move, you’re going to know that going in.

Kyle Busch wants NASCAR to make changes to the rule book
During the same conversation, Busch revealed how he would have acted in such situation if he was a NASCAR official. He urged the sanctioning body to write in the rule book a right hook would be resulted in a one-race suspension.

I would not want to be in that business if I was NASCAR, calling balls and strikes is not who I want to be if I’m a NASCAR official. Intent is intent… Put it in the rulebook: A right hook will result in a one-race suspension. Period.
Kyle Busch added.
The comment from the veterans shows he is really frustrated with how everything played out and wants NASCAR to more consistent. It would be interesting to see how if the sanctioning body will respond to the accusations.
