LeBron James and Austin Rivers

Kyle Kuzma recently reacted to a resurfaced video from the 2020 NBA playoffs, where LeBron James and Austin Rivers almost fought. The incident occurred during Game 5 of the conference semifinals between the LA Lakers and Houston Rockets.

LeBron James was fouled by Austin Rivers, who then accidentally tapped the ball, which then hit James on the head. James turned around in anger, but Rivers quickly apologized, thus preventing an altercation.

The video was shared by a Lakers fan account to troll narratives about the league not fearing LeBron James. This debate has been a topic of conversation in the NBA community, with some arguing that players don’t fear James like they did Michael Jordan.

Kuzma found the situation hilarious, as reflected in his tweet. The debate continues, with no clear consensus on whether James commands the same level of fear as Jordan did in his prime.

Austin Rivers cautions against Bronny James playing with LeBron

As the NBA Draft nears, Austin Rivers shared his thoughts on Bronny James potentially playing with his father LeBron James. Rivers expressed his hope that it doesn’t happen, as he cited his own experience playing for his father, Doc Rivers, as a reason.

I mean, I hope it doesn't happen. I don't want to see Bronny play with his dad. I really don't. I went through something similar, it was a very similar situation, but also different. I was already in the NBA when I went to go play for him [my father]. What happens is a lot of people start to discredit what you've done... Him getting drafted and playing with his dad. I don't want that negativity to come his way. He doesn't deserve it.
Austin Rivers said on ESPN’s NBA Today in February

Rivers believes that playing with a family member, especially a legendary player like LeBron, can lead to people discrediting Bronny’s accomplishments. He thinks Bronny doesn’t deserve the negativity that comes with playing alongside his father.

Rivers’ comments come as LeBron has publicly stated his desire to play with Bronny in the NBA. While Rivers understands the desire, he thinks it’s better for Bronny to establish himself independently to avoid the criticism and doubts that come with playing with a family member.
