The less entertaining race product from last week’s playoff event at Bristol Motor speedway has yet again stirred up the conversation about Next-Gen cars’ inadequacy at short tracks. 2021 Cup champion Kyle Larson won the race leading over 462 laps of 500, and the race only featured a mere eight passes for the lead.
The fact that the regular season race at Bristol featured massive tier wear and over 54 lead changes, made the last race a massive disappointment. The race winner Kyle Larson furious as some fans calling the race boring because of his dominance and blaming Goodyear. He came to the defense of the tire manufacturer revealing even NASCAR doesn’t have solution for the issue.
He went onto highlight that even the Cup driver, who has been demanding for softer tires or increased horsepower to solve the issue, doesn’t actually have the right answers to fix the issues as well. Larson words suggest most of the opinions coming out in the NASCAR community on the topic aren’t supported with the facts.
Kyle Larson defends Goodyear from bad rap
The backlash on social media over the race made Kyle Larson to post multiple X posts out of frustration demanding respect for the sport. While talking about these posts, Larson pointed out that he was trying to defend Goodyear who was getting a bad rap despite the fact that they aren’t to be blamed for the racing being poor.
The words from the future Hall of Famer reflect his dedication and passion over the sport. It will be interesting to see if the fans will change their opinion’s seeing Larson’s comments and how it might change the view of Next-Gen era short track racing in the 2024 season.
