San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan knows what the narratives are surrounding his star signal caller. Several analysts and fans consider Brock Purdy to be a system quarterback and not an elite quarterback.

But he has seen the development of Mr. Irrelevant from the time he has taken over the starting job. That development Shanahan believes has increased exponentially this pre-season. Speaking with ESPN reporter Nick Wagoner, Shanahan was ecstatic about what he has seen from his young QB so far. After observing Purdy’s work this off-season, Shanahan had a few things to say.

He is definitely ahead of where he was last year this time. It's been awesome for him to lead us through the whole offseason, just drillwise and everything. It's been great to have [him] for a first full offseason.

Shanahan has seen his fair share of quarterbacks. For him to shower this much praise must have come after seeing how much Brock Purdy has used his first full off-season to improve his game. Last off-season Brock Purdy was unable to participate due to his elbow injury. The maximum he could do was to study film and absorb as much information as his coaches and teammates could give him. However, he parlayed that into a franchise record 4280 yards.

Not bad from the last pick of a draft who did not even get to train with his teammates. Now he is taking full advantage of the off-season by going through the progressions and learning. Kyle Shanahan knows this is a major leap for his quarterback.

Brock Purdy is not bothered about his salary

The 24-year-old knows that much of the talk has been due to his low salary. In fact, all of his backups earn more than him. However, he revealed to Wagoner that he did not want to get entangled in the discussion;

I'm trying to win this year and do everything I can for this organization. Everything else happens how it happens. Getting too caught up in all that kind of stuff is, for me, that's nonsense. I'm taking it one day at a time and getting better.
Brock Purdy revealed

Usually, an athlete does talk about their substandard salary. Especially when they play the most important position for the San Francisco 49ers that just lost a Super Bowl and are primed to go back to it.

But this young man seems to have his head firmly on his shoulders. He knows he has to put in the work. When he plays better and wins a Super Bowl, he can demand a fair pay. Until then, he will continue to work on his game so that the team do not find him to be the reason for their loss.

As mentioned earlier, Kyle Shanahan has been around good to great quarterbacks. Therefore, he is seeing elite progression right in front of his eyes from a player who in any other circumstances would have been out of the league.
