Kyler Murray initiated a social media meltdown with just one Instagram post. His tribute to retired NFL quarterback Michael Vick invited so much heat that the Arizona Cardinals star had to release a public apology.
A day after defeating the Carolina Panthers at home, Murray uploaded photos wearing Vick’s Virginia Tech jersey while holding the leash of a pitbull. On the surface, it can be perceived as a fan honoring their idol. However, the football purists found the photo offensive due to the presence of a dog in the photo.

Murray pulled the photo down after encountering severe backlash. The 28-year-old later set the record straight. He clarified:
In no way, shape, or form do I condone animal cruelty or dog fighting, whatever it is. For me personally, you all saw me wear the Michael Vick jersey. A player that I admire very much growing up, and then just being at home with my pup… I saw how it affected people and decided to take it down.

He has since pulled down a post on Instagram.

It begs the question whether Murray had forgotten Vick’s infamous dogfighting scandal. The former Falcons shot caller spent two years behind bars after the authorities discovered his uncouth hobby.
Vick’s NFL career was never the same again. The Philadelphia Eagles gave him a second chance, but he was stuck playing second fiddle. He was out of the league in 2016 after short stints with the New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 45-year-old has recently had a career revival. He is 1-2 as the head coach of the FCS’s Norfolk State University Spartans.
The Kyler Murray-Marvin Harrison Jr. connection remains a concern for the Cardinals
Of all the teams to start 2-0, the Cardinals are considered to be the weakest. They can change the narrative by feeding Marvin Harrison Jr. more passes.

Harrison’s second year began on the right foot, receiving 5 catches for 71 yards and one touchdown in New Orleans. He was expected to improve on those numbers against the Panthers at home. The fixture ended with just two catches for 27 yards.
Just Throw Marvin Harrison Jr. the DAMN ball!

5 targets in week 2 for your WR1 is unacceptable… pic.twitter.com/zP6hVZ10ss
Tight end Trey McBride leads the Cardinals in targets and receptions. McBride, who racked up 100+ receptions and 1100+ yards in 2024, at present stands at 12 receptions for 139 yards in 2025.
Winning is the most important part of the business, but fans want to see the generational talent Harrison Jr. thrive in Jonathan Gannon’s offense. Reporters asked Murray to elaborate on the reason behind Harrison receiving very few targets.
There’s only 1 ball, and I’ve said before I wish I can get all my guys 10 or more targets. Sometimes Marv’s gonna get 10, and other times he’ll get 3. It is what it is.

MVJ’s current tally stands at 7 receptions and 98 yards. However, the Ohio State graduate prefers to see his team winning games instead of chasing after individual records. “That’s a silly conversation, really,” Harrison Jr. said.

Harrison put up decent numbers during his first season in the NFL, racking up 62 receptions for 885 yards and 8 touchdowns. Kyler Murray played every game in 2024. He racked up 372 completions for 3851 yards (68.8% completion), 21 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, along with 78 rushes for 572 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. The Cardinals finished 8-9 and missed the playoffs.
If they continue to win games, they stand a chance to qualify for postseason football for the first time since 2021. Up next, they face the San Francisco 49ers in week three and the Seattle Seahawks the week after.
