Kylian Mbappe opens up about his ambitions to play for Real Madrid after leaving PSG
Paris Saint Germain striker Kylian Mbappe’s contract at the French club has not been renewed, sparking rumors that he would leave for Real Madrid at the conclusion of the season. Mbappe believes that departing PSG in the summer might have been a primal decision, but has stated that Real Madrid is the only team he wishes to play for.
Mbappe had been associated with a transfer to Real Madrid, but PSG have always maintained that he is not for sale. Despite Mbappe’s deal expiring at the end of the season, Los Blancos were willing to invest £197 million to sign him in the summer. However, PSG refused to consent to a deal.
During a conversation with L’Equipe and RMC in an interview, the French forward talked about his wishes to play for Real Madrid in La Liga. “If I had left this summer, it would only have been for Real Madrid. I thought my adventure here was over. I wanted something else. I’d been in Ligue 1 for six or seven years, I’d given everything to Paris and had done well. That was my thought, leaving was the next logical step,” said Mbappe.

Mbappe further added that he expressed his desire to leave PSG in July itself and didn’t want to extend his contract. He believed that PSG could have cashed in and got a quality replacement.
The French forward also added that the four years he spent with PSG were brilliant and would continue with them if the club says so. He has netted 95 goals for PSG so far in 116 appearances and has been a key factor in the club’s success over the last few years.
“I asked to leave because, from the moment I did not want to extend [my contract], I wanted the club to have a transfer fee to find a quality replacement. It is a club that has given me a lot, I have always been happy, the four years I spent here, and I am still happy. I wanted everyone to come out of this stronger, that we leave hand in hand, to make a good deal and I respected that. I announced it early enough … I said, if you don’t want me to leave, I’ll stay,” added Kylian Mbappe.
