Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving recently made headlines with his latest gesture, capturing the attention of the NBA community and particularly Chinese fans. Irving was seen casually strolling through the streets of China, where he is currently on a promotional tour for the Chinese sports brand ‘Anta.’

Irving was also spotted showing fans the Los Angeles Lakers legend, Kobe Bryant‘s jersey. He was walking shirtless on the streets as fans chanted his name.

Irving’s popularity is well-known around the globe. Fans chanting his name speaks enough for the love and respect he has earned over his illustrious basketball career. Irving took to his X account as he responded to the Chinese fans who chanted his name on the streets while he was taking a stroll.

The trip is part of an expanded Asia tour, consistent with Anta’s ambitions to increase its footprint in Southeast Asia, with Irving being the main face of the brand.

Since leaving Nike, Irving’s connection with Anta has grown stronger, highlighting the NBA’s global appeal and the growing importance of player sponsorships. In addition to his skill on the court, Irving’s marketability and off-court persona are evident when he interacts with supporters and promotes his collaboration with Anta, his sneaker sponsor.

Kyrie Irving’s latest shoes have stunning design

Kyrie Irving has always been known for his no-nonsense attitude both on and off the court. In late 2022, Irving’s contract with Nike was terminated, making him a free agent. The popular point guard had been promoting a movie called Hebrews to Negroes, which spreads harmful myths about Jews, for years.

Irving faced repercussions from both Nike and his then-NBA team, the Brooklyn Nets, due to his failure to immediately condemn the offensive “documentary.” This situation led to Irving signing a deal with the Chinese brand Anta. Recently, Anta unveiled Irving’s latest sneakers, the ANTA KAI 1 inspired by Kyrie Irving’s time with the Duke Bluedevils. Fans were left stunned by the intricate design of the sneakers.

It’s important to note that Irving is the brand’s chief creative officer. Hence, it is safe to say that no design would be accepted without the Dallas Mavericks stars’ approval.

Irving is currently spending some quality time in China as a part of a promotional tour. However, he will be fully focused on the upcoming season once he returns from his tour. Hence, it will be interesting to watch how Irving performs with his new sneakers in the upcoming NBA season.
