When Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks reached the NBA Finals last season, it was seen as the perfect way to redeem himself after struggling through years of criticism. The star point guard and his teammates came up short, but knew they were in the right place.

Their immediate goal was to take the next step, that is, to win a championship. The team was united, and their chemistry was that of a group of close-knit friends. Irving naturally became their leader after everyone made him feel wanted.

Klay Thompson joined, and suddenly the team felt they could win it all. Despite going through early-season injuries, it was the Luka Doncic trade that shook them. Since then, they have not had enough time to play with Anthony Davis or with the rest of the team.

With the life sucked out of the Mavericks, it got worse when Kyrie Irving suffered a season-ending injury. Now, the superstar point guard was facing adversity again in the form of this injury. As he recovers, he is now watching the NBA Finals at home.

I’m watching the Finals, recovering from my ACL injury, I could be bogged down or depressed. I let people spin narratives, get into my head, violate my spiritual boundaries. That led to a spiral of emotions. I know what it feels like to lose it all or not want to be on Earth anymore. So please—don’t stay quiet, don’t retreat. I care. Reach out to your loved ones.

The father of two made it clear that keeping one’s mental health in check. Thankfully, he is fine at a point where it would be natural to feel depressed. He then asked his viewers to make sure they seek help when in need.

Kyrie Irving and Mavs will be NBA title contenders next season if healthy

Kyrie Irving tore his ACL in the early days of March. The usual time for recovery from that injury is a year. However, players have come back earlier than expected. Even if the NBA champion were to return in March 2026, he would be an added boost to a Dallas Mavericks team looking to contend for an NBA title.

They have the roster to get there when healthy. Even though Doncic is gone, the team has Anthony Davis and a plethora of talent. They will also possibly draft Cooper Flagg with the 1st overall pick. His addition will give the team an additional dynamic.

Whenever Irving returns, he will be ready to do what is necessary to help take the team to the next level. Many consider the Mavericks as NBA title contenders. Therefore, the adversity he is facing now could be eased if he were to lift the Larry O’Brien Trophy next June.

Kyrie Irving responds to Tracy McGrady’s opinion on handles

Kyrie Irving is considered to possess some of the best handles in all of basketball. His unreal ability to dribble the ball and create shots out of nothing has gone a long way in establishing his legacy. However, former NBA great Tracy McGrady‘s comment about his handles caught his attention.

When I see these things happen, when I see an OG like T-Mac come out and say that, it doesn’t bother me. I’m a mix of all the great players that came before me. I just don’t think he has the same movement. Jamaal Tinsley was not moving like me. I don’t think anybody moves like me.

Kyrie Irving said on his Twitch Stream

The 9-time All-Star seemed unfazed by Tracy McGrady’s comparison, reiterating that he has the best moves in all of basketball. Usually, players respond to such comparisons with some level of angst. Uncle Drew, it seems, is in a better place, and his mental health awareness has helped him get there.
