Kyrie Irving made fun of Naz Reid's coaching

After playing in the NBA finals, the Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving is taking some time off this offseason. However, the star could not be far away from the basketball as he recently attended the 2024 BET Experience Fan Fest in Los Angeles. During the event, Irving was spotted spending some time with his Western Conference finals opponent, Naz Reid.

After a head-to-head matchup for the championship semifinals, there seems to be no bad blood between Kyrie Irving and the sixth man of the year. The duo was seen being humorous with each other as Irving made fun of Naz Reid‘s drawn plays as a coach. Irving questioned Reid’s coaching abilities as he hilariously showed the paper on camera in the viral video.

To make the moment funnier, Reid tried to defend his play by explaining it to the camera. However, the exchange was all in good spirits, and Reid even reposted the video on his Instagram stories. Irving was not completely wrong, as Reid has much less experience in the postseason than Irving. Nevertheless, Irving was slightly wrong as the Minnesota Timberwolves center has played not one but two playoffs.

Fans were delighted to see the light-hearted moment as the last time the duo was seen together on a basketball court but on opposite sides. During the series, Irving’s side dominated the Timberwolves 4-1 to qualify for the finals. In the end, the Timberwolves put up a good fight and are expected to do much more next season.

Kyrie Irving dominated Naz Reid in the Western Conference finals

Irving’s confidence against Reid came from the star’s performance in the conference finals. Reid had an amazing season coming off the bench as the center won the 6th Man of the Year award. Reid’s stats told the other story because he was mostly seen as an offensive contributor. The center was certainly an essential help to defenders like Rudy Gobert and Jaden McDaniels.

According to CleaningTheGlass, opponents score 4.2 fewer points per 100 possessions against the Wolves when Reid is on the floor. But that was not the case for Irving. The Mavericks guard is widely known for being unguardable, as even the best defenders have no answer for him.

Reid was also not an exception. During Game 1 of the series, Irving set the tone early as he flawlessly drove to the basket through Reid and was even fouled. Irving played excellently throughout the series, which helped the Mavericks in a big way.

Irving and the Mavericks went on to win the game and even dominate the Timberwolves through the entire series. Reid, like most of the Timberwolves, had faith in the team despite being 3-1, but the Mavericks ended the series in five games. Despite the tough competition, it is safe to say that Irving and Reid still share a bond.
