Kyrie Irving was on fire against Stephen Curry and the Warriors

One of the best and most iconic rivalries in the NBA is the backcourt matchup of Stephen Curry and Kyrie Irving. The two-star guards have been two of the most entertaining players to watch go head to head, and they put on a show yet again when the Golden State Warriors took on the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday.

The game was tightly contested between the Warriors and the Mavs, but Kyrie Irving’s 42-point outburst proved to be just too much for the Warriors to handle. Irving was a menace on both ends of the floor, not just torching the Dubs with the ball in hand but also getting crucial stops on defense, including drawing a game-clinching charge call against Jimmy Butler in the final seconds of the game to seal the win.

Irving was uber-efficient from the field, shooting 15-25 from the floor and 7-10 from three. He also constantly torched any opponent in 1v1 situations, applying tremendous pressure on the Warriors and Stephen Curry to guard him tighter. One of his standout sequences came in the third quarter when he drained 9 points for the Mavs in just 41 seconds.

The rivalry between Kyrie Irving and Stephen Curry has always been built for primetime television. From ‘The Shot’ that Irving drained over Curry in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals to the iconic performances that they both have put up against one another over the years, the two Western Conference All-Star guards have always taken matchups against each other personally.

NBA fans left speechless by Kyrie Irving’s display against Stephen Curry and Warriors

It’s safe to say that Kyrie Irving is one of the most exciting players to watch play basketball in league history. Every time Uncle Drew puts on a show, the crowd is left in awe of his wizardry, and Wednesday night against Stephen Curry and the Warriors was no different. Fans especially noted Irving’s history of putting up big performances against the Warriors.

Irving once again put up a big performance when facing off against Curry as many fans noted, something that has become a theme for him over the course of his career. Some of his most iconic performances, including the one last night, have come against Curry and Golden State.

However, the numbers don’t entirely bear out the eye test in this case. In those games, Irving averaged 25.7 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.3 rebounds, while Curry averaged 24.3 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.2 rebounds, albeit with a better record.
