Kyrie Irving has come to the defense of his teammate Luka Doncic after an impressive performance in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. In the post-game press conference, Irving referred to Doncic as his “little brother” and acknowledged that he will make mistakes, but emphasized the team’s support for him.

Uncle Drew reiterated that he and the rest of the Mavericks have Doncic’s back, just as head coach Jason Kidd had defended him before Game 4. Kyrie Irving emphasized the importance of having quality leaders in the locker room who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the team.

Irving also addressed the criticism Luka Doncic has faced, saying that while some of it may be fair, it’s hard for outsiders to understand the team’s dynamics. He warned that if criticism crosses a certain boundary, the team will step up to protect their own.

In the Game 4 win, Doncic and Irving led the charge, as they both combined for 50 points. Doncic scored 28 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and dished out 7 assists, while Irving added 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Kyrie Irving had a 13-game losing streak against his former team, the Boston Celtics, including a 2022 first-round sweep and the first three games of the current NBA Finals. However, Irving and the Dallas Mavericks broke that streak with a dominant 122-84 win in Game 4, forcing a Game 5 in Boston.

Kyrie Irving has scored 56 points over Games 3 and 4, a significant improvement from his performance in Games 1 and 2. Irving also credited his teammates for their support and emergence in the series.
