Lakers made Dan Hurley’s wife ‘violently angry’ with $70 million offer

Dan Hurley's wife Andrea became "violently angry" with $70 million head coaching offer from Los Angeles Lakers

Dan Hurley almost signed on to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. They had made a sizeable offer and wanted him to be their long-term coach, preparing for life after LeBron James retired. That is, had his wife Andrea Hurley not been irked by the contract offer one of the most storied franchises in NBA history had come forward with.

During a recent appearance on the Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, the UConn Huskies men’s basketball coach talked about how the media frenzy affected his family. When asked by host Dan Le Batard, Hurley explained that initially his wife Andrea Hurley was very emotional and upset.

She was like crying in the beginning. I think initially, the first couple days of it, she got violently angry and emotional. Not like hitting me and stuff. She got emotional like, ‘I can’t believe you’re bringing this. Our life is so great, it’s perfect. Our lives couldn’t be better and now you’re bringing this sh*t.'

However, once they visited Los Angeles, met Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss, and experienced the weather, she started to warm up to the idea. But when they returned to Connecticut without having made a decision, both of them reverted to their initial hesitation.

It seems, Andrea Hurley did not want her family to move to Los Angeles. Not especially for that money.

It has been revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers potentially low balled in their efforts to get the Hurley family to move to the West Coast, especially when most of his family and extended family reside on the East Coast.

Los Angeles Lakers now looking at JJ Redick

Once Dan Hurley declined the offer to coach the Los Angeles Lakers, the franchise moved to plan B. JJ Redick might have been the front runner for the job for some time. But the prospect of getting Hurley made them forget about Redick and try and get the best college head coach. However, now it seems they are back on it.

As reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, JJ Redick will sit down with Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka in an official interview this weekend. Which means, LeBron James’ podcast mate gets the chance to impress Buss and Pelinka and take the job. The Lakers have already met with James Borrego, but rumors suggest he is more inclined towards the vacant position with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

With the NBA Finals about to conclude, the Los Angeles Lakers could announce JJ Redick as their next head coach soon. A move that ensures their long-term plans are firmly in place.
