The Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson parted ways recently, with Thompson opting to sign for the Dallas Mavericks through the 2024 NBA Free Agency. Interestingly, on the First Things First show, Chris Broussard made an exciting revelation reading Thompson, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Lakers’ D’Angelo Russell.
Broussard claimed on the show that the Lakers were interested in Thompson, however, the Warriors did not want Russell in the sign-in-trade move. Broussard also claimed that Thompson did want to wait much longer for the Lakers to find a trade partner for Russell to snap Thompson later. Thompson rather decided to join the Mavs for the 2024-25 NBA season instead.

In addition, Thompson moving to the Warriors’ arch-rivals in Lakers would have caused chaos in the NBA and its community.
On the other hand, Klay Thompson will join the 2024 NBA finalists in the Mavs for the next season. With the Mavs boasting the likes of star players like, Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and P.J. Washington, the 4-time NBA champion adding to this star-studded roster makes it even more interesting for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season.
Klay Thompson chose the Mavs over the Lakers for one particular factor
The former Golden State Warriors legendary guard Klay Thompson chose to sign for the Dallas Mavericks after falling out with the Warriors in contract negotiations. Interestingly, Thompson had a choice to make between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Free Agency and opted for the Mavs over the Lakers.
The Lakers attracted Thompson’s interest, but the financial savings of living in Texas over California, as well as the fact that the Mavericks were three victories away from an NBA championship, weighed heavily on his decision, according to ESPN. These were defining factors in Thompson’s selection to move to the Mavs over the Lakers.
In addition, a conversation with Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison and VP Michael Finley swayed Thompson’s decision, and Thompson was encouraged by the opportunity to compete for a fifth NBA title with Dallas, who had recently advanced to the NBA Finals. With Thompson’s move to the Mavs is sealed, it will be intriguing to watch how he performs for them in the upcoming season.
