“They can’t be this desperate!” – Lakers pursuing former player Kyle Kuzma for LeBron James has fans in disbelief
The Los Angeles Lakers 2024 free agency has so far not gone according to plan.
Los Angeles Lakers pursuing former player and current Washington Wizards star Kyle Kuzma
Almost every day, the intended targets of the Los Angeles Lakers go elsewhere. LeBron James had a preferable list of potential candidates that fit their style of play, but nothing has materialized yet. They still have hope as they continue to call teams. However, fans are not particularly enthused by their pursuit of former championship-winning player and current Washington Wizards star Kyle Kuzma.
Lakers insider Anthony Irwin reported that the franchise still talks to several teams. Although, after free agency’s opening days, most top-tier talents have disappeared. Klay Thompson signed with the Dallas Mavericks. James Harden re-signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. Their deals were done on the opening day of free agency.
Fast forward to today, and even the prospect of DeMar DeRozan joining the purple and gold looks to be slipping away. They are now left with a list of second-tier players. Among them stands Kyle Kuzma. Surprisingly, Kuzma was a cornerstone piece in their 2020 NBA title win. But then, they traded him away to the Washington Wizards. Now, he seems like a viable piece to return.
However, it may not be easy as the rebuilding Wizards are looking to get back at least two Round 1 picks. The Lakers might not be willing to do that for a 2nd tier option. But it goes to show that one of the most storied franchises in the NBA has fumbled the bag.
Fans are in disbelief as the Lakers eye Kyle Kuzma
For basketball fans, it is hard to digest that the Los Angeles Lakers are now forced to settle for non-stars. This franchise’s entire history is built on bringing the biggest superstars in the league. The fact that most stars have preferred to stay away is a major negative. They want to stay away from the bright lights of Los Angeles.
No wonder fans were livid when this news broke of their pursuit of Kyle Kuzma. It is particularly dampening as fans know LeBron James deserved more. They took to social media to talk about this development;
The Los Angeles Lakers have nothing to show for other than two draft picks. They need something to happen right away. With James signing a 2-year deal, it seems more and more likely that they might not be contending for an NBA title anytime soon.
