Lakers to offer $100 million to lure Dan Hurley to be head coach
Los Angeles Lakers want a head coach who can build a team for continuous success.
Los Angeles Lakers preparing lucrative contract to lure Dan Hurley away from UConn
The Los Angeles Lakers remain in talks with UConn head coach Dan Hurley about becoming their next head coach. However, Hurley is weighing his options as he could potentially continue his legacy-building run with the Huskies men’s basketball team. Therefore, it could take a massive pull from the Lakers to bring him to their arena.
Lakers Insider Anthony Irvin revealed that an 8-year $100 million deal is being prepared to lure Dan Hurley away from UConn. It is quite a massive sum, considering he has not coached in the NBA. Having success in college does not necessarily translate to success in the NBA. Nevertheless, Hurley can potentially lead the Los Angeles Lakers into the path of continuous dominance.
Dominance is something he has consistently delivered at UConn. His ability to develop young players and make adjustments during the game remains a hallmark of a great coach. More importantly, he is known not to back down when demanding the best out of his players. The Lakers will desperately need someone like Hurley if they want to win NBA titles.
Therefore, they do not want to take chances while hiring their next head coach, as it will be on that person to steer the team to success. If it needs $100 million to bring Dan Hurley to be that person, so be it. This deal could set him alongside the likes of Steve Kerr in the highest paid NBA coaches list.
Michael Malone thinks Dan Hurley will be successful in the NBA
Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone is among the best head coaches in the NBA. How he has built the Nuggets into the gold standard of the NBA is commendable. As such, Malone expects Hurley to make a tremendous impact in the NBA.
I think Danny can do a hell of a job coaching in the NBA. He's young, he's energetic. Danny will have to be who he is if he takes the Lakers job. I think Danny, he's studied the NBA. I think he can come in and do a hell of a job, if he chooses to do so.Michael Malone via The Jim Rome Show
Michael Malone has known Dan Hurley for a long time. Therefore, he did not hesitate to say that Hurley could do a brilliant job with the Los Angeles Lakers. Malone thinks Hurley has the acumen to help build a championship-winning squad, considering how he developed a team like the UConn Huskies.
In fact, he will not have the burden of recruiting players in the NBA. Therefore, Hurley can concentrate on coaching and leading the Lakers to success. This remains the reason why the franchise prepared such a massive contract to lure him.
