Lamar Jackson threw 25/33 completed passes for 290 yards (75.5% completion rate) for 4 touchdowns and zero interceptions against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night. One might perceive that the Baltimore Ravens comfortably won against the Bengals, but the reality was far from it, and it took a lot out of Jackson.

The Ravens were the bookmaker’s favorites to beat their AFC North rivals as they played in front of the home crowd. Two minutes into the second half, the Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow threw a couple of touchdowns and set up another to give the away side a 21-7 lead.

Ravens fans were naturally in shock at the start until Jackson brought out his inner Steph Curry to not only equalize but also take a seven-point lead with just under a couple of minutes left until the final whistle. Burrow’s last-ditch effort to win the game proved futile despite reducing the score to just one point. The game eventually finished 35-34 for the Ravens.

The Bengals quarterback pushed Lamar Jackson to the limit in this game. Burrow threw 34/56 (60.4% completion rate) for 428 yards, 4 touchdowns, and zero interceptions, and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase had 11 receptions for 264 yards (24 yards per carry) and three touchdowns.

It was a Prime Video blockbuster for the neutrals, but for Jackson, the pressure almost got the better of him even though he played it cool while facing the camera. As his Instagram post suggested, the scene inside the locker room was different. He posted a collaged photo of himself holding a fake cigarette and a worker at a mall, both hunched over after a hard day in the office.

Ya, auntie I am wit ya. Work ain’t no joke. They got me on cigs in the locker room.

However, the All-Pro shot caller opened his interview by thanking the all-mighty.

I knew what the assignment was; I studied those guys. Getting with Coach Tee [Martin, the QBs coach] and just putting in extra work because I wasn’t out there—watching practice and studying film on those [Bengals] guys—that pretty much helped. And God. God, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that’s why we’re having so much success. That’s the one that’s leading us throughout these games, week in and week out
