Who’d have wondered if the fifth highest-paid quarterback would outshine Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow in the list of highest-paid athletes across the world? If there’s a name from the NFL in that list, it’s reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson

Forbes released the list of the World’s 10 Highest-Paid Athletes in 2024 on Thursday and the Baltimore Ravens’ star quarterback has occupied the 10th rank. Surprisingly, neither Mahomes nor Burrow made it to the list despite having two of the largest contracts in the NFL.

With on-field earnings of $98.5 million and off-field $2 million, Jackson successfully made the list coursey to the $72.5 million signing bonus he received from the Ravens last season. With a 13-4 season record, the two consecutive NFL MVPs led his team to the conference championship game as the AFC champion.

The Ravens have always been upfront in rewarding their star quarterback handsomely and signing lucrative, multi-million dollar contracts. With an accumulated earning of $100.5 million, Jackson enlisted himself among the highest-paid athletes.

Jackson joins the sports world’s best earners thanks to the five-year, $260 million extension he signed in May. It briefly reigned as the biggest contract in NFL history by average annual value, only to be broken by a pair of signal callers further down the list.

Justin Birnbaum of Forbes wrote

Top on the list is of course, soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo with $260 million, followed by golf star John Rahm with $218 million and Lionel Messi with $135 million as the top three on the Forbes list.

Lamar Jackson faces Patrick Mahomes in high-stakes opener

With this celebratory news, the Ravens’ star quarterback received another significant news a day before about his opening game scheduled with the reigning Super Bowl champions. This allows him to rectify his mistake in the AFC championship game and give the Kansas City Chiefs a losing start in 2024.

This season-opening game of 2024 is widely being considered a rematch for the conference championship game, especially since both of the teams are longtime rivals making the matchup hard to miss. The Ravens, no doubt, overpowered the Chiefs in that game, but Mahomes and the team pulled through and advanced to the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs are aiming to make history with a three-peat and meanwhile, the Ravens are hoping to break their Super Bowl drought and bring Jackson his long-time desire– the first Super Bowl trophy.
