In Ryan Clark’s opinion, Lamar Jackson is supposed to be the next evolution of dual-threat quarterbacks in football. Jackson’s elusiveness helps him avoid sacks. However, his silky footwork did not come in handy while playing the Detroit Lions.

Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens hosted the NFC North club on Monday night, days after securing their first win of the season against divisional rivals the Cleveland Browns. Analysts and football pundits predicted a Ravens victory, backed by a 6.5-point odds-on advantage from Vegas.

Dan Campbell’s Lions proved the narrative wrong, as they have so often in the past few seasons. Detroit led in every single metric in the game. They had 30+ minutes of possession, 24 first downs, 426 total yards, and zero turnovers to secure a 38-30 win in prime time.

Despite the overwhelming dominance, the best stat of the night came from the Lions’ defense. The group of Al-Quadin Muhammad (2.5), Trevor Nowaske (1), Aidan Hutchinson (1), Derrick Barnes (1), Alex Anzalone (0.5) and Jack Campbell (1) sacked Lamar Jackson 7 times in the four quarters of football.

According to the Associated Press’ Josh Dubow, this was only the third time that Jackson had taken at least 7 sacks in an NFL game: 7 vs the Pittsburgh Steelers (12/5/2021) and 7 vs the Los Angeles Chargers (2018 wild card game).

Statmuse revealed that Jackson is the 11th most sacked quarterback since making his debut for the Ravens in 2018, with 204 sacks in 106 appearances (Giants QB Russell Wilson leads the pack with 319 in the same number of games).

Lamar Jackson focused on improving his game after the Lions’ loss

Jackson regularly ranks among the top five quarterbacks. Last year, he lost the league MVP crown to Josh Allen by a whisker, although many viewed the 28-year-old as more deserving than the Bills QB.

The NFL presented Jackson with the chance to exact his revenge on Allen and the Bills in week one. Despite throwing for 200+ yards and contributing three total touchdowns, the Ravens lost the game. The Browns felt the full brunt of Jackson’s anger in week two, giving up 4 passing touchdowns and a win.

Before the week three fixture, the Ravens and Lions had played on seven different occasions, with the Baltimore club boasting a 6-1 record. The Lions arrived in the Ravens’ den after putting 50 past the Chicago Bears last week.

However, Campbell’s team was still the underdog. They stunned the locals by taking a seven-point lead right after halftime and silenced them completely when Aidan Hutchinson forced a fumble out of star running back Derrick Henry.

Jackson’s last-gasp touchdown pass to tight end Mark Andrews made little impact on the outcome. The game finished 38-30. Jackson threw over 250 yards for the first time this year and three passing touchdowns.

Speaking with the media, Jackson said that the Ravens played well but needed better execution.

I feel like we performed as a whole… You know it’s the beginning of the season, but we’ve got a lot of work to do. We just gotta execute.

Jackson is spot on. The Ravens’ biggest requirement right now is killing teams off. ESPN research revealed that the Ravens’ 111 points in 2025 are the most in 3 games by a team with a losing record (1-2).

Well, the Ravens’ next opponents are also 1-2 after three games. The Kansas City Chiefs won their first game of the season on Sunday by beating the New York Giants after starting with losses against the Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles.
