Lamine Yamal is, without a shadow of doubt, one of the best youngsters in the sport. The 16-year-old has been lighting up the stage for both club and country, with his latest performance against Germany being one to remember. At the tender age of 16, the footballing community is convinced that he is the rightful ‘heir’ to Lionel Messi‘s ‘throne’ and will eventually manage to do so with time.

A recent photograph of the player has put social media in a standstill, as fans have started to wonder whether Yamal’s rise to the scene has always been written in the stars. A viral photograph of baby Lamine Yamal features the player alongside Lionel Messi himself, as the two posed for a picture as part of a charity campaign. The picture dates back to 2007, and shows Yamal with his mother and Messi.

The former FC Barcelona captain is seen playing with Yamal, who is sat in bathtub as part of a charity calendar photoshoot. What’s even more surprising is the fact that players were assorted randomly alongside children.

Messi being paired with a young Yamal seems like an incident straight out of a movie. Fans feel that Yamal taking center stage is nothing but the fulfillment of his ‘prophecy’. He is currently the top assist provider at the Euros.

Hosts Germany were knocked out of the 2024 Euros in one of the most frustrating ways possible. The 2014 World Cup winners ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard as Spain dazzled past their defense thanks to Lamine Yamal and co. Luis de la Fuente fielded three playes under the age of 21, as Julian Nagelsmann stuck to a rather experienced starting XI.

Spain started off with a bang, making multiple shots on target against the hosts. After the opening 45 minutes passed without a goal, up stepped Dani Olmo to push his side into the lead. Yamal picked up the ball near the wing before exquisitely picking out Olmo who made a late run into the box. The RB Leipzig man beat Manuel Neuer with ease, as his perfectly placed shot eluded the keeper’s grasp.

Germany valiantly fought back in the final minutes, with Florian Wirtz giving them a lifeline in the 89th minute. His hopeful slash at the ball ended up in the net, forcing the game into extra time. After a stop-start half of extra time, substitute Mikel Merino stepped up to lead La Roja to the semi-final with a stunning header. With just a minute to go, Merino’s header meant the end of the road for hosts Germany.
