Unlike last season, the Philadelphia Eagles appear to be struggling on the football field just five games into the season. Being ranked 18th in points per game and 14th in yards per play, they are no longer the undefeated driving force they were last season till the month of December and the year before when the team advanced to the Super Bowl.
Although the Eagles are coming off a victory against the Cleveland Browns, they are being scrutinized for the lackluster performance of the offense. Things seemed to be worsening as now their own players started commenting on the underwhelming offense this season.
While addressing the media post-game, offensive lineman Lane Johnson had some quite interesting choice of words to describe the offense headed by quarterback Jalen Hurts. Standing with a 3-2 record, Johnson expressed his frustration with the struggling O-line, despite the 20-16 victory.
Calling the offense inefficient, Johnson claimed to understand the emotions and frustrations of the Philadelphia fans and asserted he would have reacted similarly if he had been in their place.
Nick Sirianni urges Eagles fans to support team amidst criticism and struggles
While the star right tackle tried to comprehend the fans’ emotions, head coach Nick Sirianni, who has also been a target of the fans’ wrath, asked them to have faith in the team instead of booing as it affects their confidence. He requested their support in the struggle time, claiming the team thrives off the cheers from the fans.
Amidst the ongoing struggle, Sirianni’s confidence in his team hasn’t shaken, and he continues to believe in their abilities as he always had.
The Eagles are now up against divisional rivals, the New York Giants next Sunday, which may improve them to a 4-2 since the Giants are having an even more tough season.
