Former British No. 1 Laura Robson has credited Nick Kyrgios for “having an opinion” on Jannik Sinner. The Italian tennis star and World No. 1 has faced heavy scrutiny ever since his doping scandal surfaced in August.

However, Robson believes her opinions differ from Kyrgios’. She thinks that if the two were to face each other at the Australian Open, the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up wouldn’t be able to “walk his talk.”

I mean, it’s no surprise that Nick has opinions, and he’s entitled to his feelings, but they’re not mine. But Nick has his opinions and it’ll certainly make things more interesting, maybe spicier, if they were to play each other. But I think on the field, it’s a different situation. I imagine a lot of that talk will go away if they do end up playing each other.

It has been a strange turn of events regarding the relationship between Sinner and Kyrgios. In January, Kyrgios was asking Sinner to coach him after his Australian Open title win. A few months later, Kyrgios has been taking consistent jibes at the two-time Grand Slam champion. Many believe the Australian tennis star has crossed the line with his criticism of Sinner.

John Isner surprised by Jannik Sinner winning the ATP Fans’ Favorite award

I am a little bit surprised. It’s not because of his personality but his 2024 was a bit polarizing, some stuff went on with him with the positive test he was cleared of. A lot of people weren’t fans of that. So I thought that could have hurt him a bit as far as fan favourite goes but apparently it didn’t, so kudus to him.

Sinner had a remarkable 2024, cementing himself as the top player in men’s tennis. He started the year strong, winning his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open. By September, he added another Major to his name, defeating Taylor Fritz to win the US Open.

In addition to his Grand Slam victories, Sinner won three Masters 1000 titles and finished the season by capturing the ATP Finals trophy. These achievements helped him climb to world number one, a significant milestone in his career.

Sinner also led Italy to defend their Davis Cup title, rounding off an extraordinary year. Despite his success, there is uncertainty ahead, as Sinner faces a possible ban from tennis. An appeal on the matter is expected early next year.
