Alpine F1 has gone under a series of changes in their back-end, from changing their team’s name, to management structure, the team has done it all for 2021 season. Having brought in experienced Fernando Alonso in their camp as well, new CEO Laurent Rossi is bullish that the two drivers will be treated equally with no preferential treatment.

Alonso will get the opportunity to make a return to F1 after two years. In that time, he has competed in the Indy Car series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Alpine is surely looking to put both Alonso and Esteban Ocon on an even keel and are looking past Alonso’s past achievements and history within the team.

Fernando Alonso not the clear #1 as per Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi

In an interview (translated via Google), Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi on being asked about who the number one driver would be was very adamant that won’t be the case.

He said, “There is no such thing as a number one and number two driver. I also don’t think that exists in many teams, to be honest, at least not in ours.”

He felt the number one chatter seeks to remove responsibility from the other driver. He said, “The drivers have to be as fast as possible and will challenge each other clearly. It’s like a healthy competition and that’s it. There are no instructions and no number one driver.”

Having said that, Alpine have brought back wily operator Fernando Alonso to help lead them into the new era. The Spaniard makes his return to a team where he had the most success in his career.
