Stephen Curry went head-to-head against his former teammate Klay Thompson, firing shots at him after his side's win over Mavs.
Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry
On Tuesday night, the Golden State Warriors played the Dallas Mavericks at the Chase Center, welcoming club legend Klay Thompson back. Thompson played for the Warriors for 13 seasons and won four NBA titles. He faced his old team and former Splash Brother, Stephen Curry, for the first time since joining the Mavericks this off-season.
Thompson was given a wholesome welcome by the DubNation as well as the Warriors’ some 400 staff members. However, this did not let Warriors star Curry from dropping a masterclass on his former teammate. In addition, he also reminded Thompson regarding his decision to leave the Bay Area in the offseason in the heated matchup.
After being guarded well througout the start of the game, Curry’s “Curry Flurry,” saw him score 12 points in a row toward the end of the game. This gave Golden State the lead and, eventually, the victory. Curry’s final 3-pointer was the game-winning basket.
Even though every point he made in the last three minutes of play was crucial. Interestingly, a leaked audio was released which showcased Curry’s wild words to Thompson. Stephen Curry said, “You better stay here, you better stay here!”

Curry clearly had more drive for this specific matchup based on his actions and style of play. The two-time MVP ended with 37 points on 14 of 27 field goals. Also, he had nine assists, six rebounds, two blocks, and one assist in his 35 minutes of play. He made his presence known towards the end in front of his home crowd after starting the game slowly.
Warriors’ Steve Kerr and Stephen Curry ‘respected’ Klay Thompson’s wish
Klay Thompson made his comeback to the Chase Center on Tuesday evening as a competitor for the first time. In relation to this, Thompson’s return to the Chase Center was the subject of much commotion. This is because Warriors star Stephen Curry and head coach Steve Kerr were being questioned by reporters. But Curry and Kerr decided against it.
Steve Kerr said that Curry would not address questions regarding Klay Thompson before the game according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic. He said that Curry and Thompson ‘decided’ they would rather focus on the game after watching the tribute film. This came a night before the game.

In July, Klay Thompson signed a three-year, $50 million contract with the Mavs. Due to knee and Achilles surgery, the 34-year-old missed more than two and a half seasons, including the 2019–20 and 2020–21 campaigns. Now, he is up and running with his new side this 2024-25 NBA season.
