LeBron James became the 1st active athlete to become a billionaire. That means his accountants have a big headache trying to keep all the numbers in check, while also ensuring his taxes are in order.
In his 22-season NBA career, the superstar has amassed $528 million from paychecks. On top of that, he earns millions a year from his endorsement deals with Nike, Louis Vuitton, and others. Thanks to those deals, he routinely features in the highest-paid athletes list year after year. Then comes his business ventures which have contributed to help him become a billionaire.
His investments in the Fenway Sports Group, Blaze Pizza, liquor brands, men’s grooming products, entertainment production house, etc. all have added to that net worth.
The superstar is a money-minting machine, and knows that with extreme wealth comes the possibility of being the target of scammers. Early on in his life, he ensured the one person closest to his money was not stealing from him.
My financial adviser, the first thing I told him when he wanted to manage my money was if you steal my money, bro, or if I’m broke, bro, I’m letting you know, bro, it ain’t going to be good for you.
LeBron James said on the Everybody’s Crazy podcast
This was an exclusive preview into the upcoming episode of Savannah James‘ podcast, Everybody’s Crazy. And, this was the quote her husband used when talking about how he gave a warning to his accountant.
LeBron James is not a risk-taker when it comes to money
Many might believe that LeBron James has taken specific risks to become a billionaire. While speaking on the podcast, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar mentioned how is anything but a risk-taker. He said:
It’s hard for me sometimes to take risks.
The 40-year-old reiterated that it was his childhood and the way he was brought that has made him scared to take many risks. He believes that if he were to lose it all, and had to start over, he would not be able to do so.
That is why whatever James puts his hands into nowadays, he ensures it is proper. Unless he feels completely sure about what he is doing, he does not go ahead with the plan.
For instance, when close friend Maverick Carter was planning to create a new international league, LeBron James chose not to be a part of it. But when it comes to owning an NBA franchise in the future, he is 100% focused on ensuring that happens.
LeBron James calmly shoots three pointer in casuals
LeBron James is about to enter season 23 of his illustrious NBA career. But it will be a while before he sets foot on the court after it was reported that he would miss a month or more due to an injury.

As of now, the 4-time league MVP is busy cheering on his teammates as they prepare for the preseason games. The 2025-26 season will start on October 21st, with the Golden State Warriors visiting them on opening night.
Fans would have loved to see the decade plus rivalry of James and Stephen Curry be the best way to kick off the new season. However, that will have to wait until the all-time leading scorer is cleared to return. As of now, he is content shooting a three-pointer in casuals in between the preseason games.
