LeBron James has completed 23 seasons in the NBA. While there were doubts about whether he would continue to play, he surprised everyone by leaving the Los Angeles Lakers after the 2025-26 campaign came to an end. The bigger surprise was yet to come as he signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers.

While James confirmed that he will play his 24th and 25th seasons in Philly, it also showed his love for basketball. No player has ever played more than 22 seasons in the league before James, let alone playing at a high level at this stage of his career.

His love for basketball is unparalleled, but he has grown to love another sport in the past year. James has become an avid fan of golf and has often been caught playing the sport in the summer.

After his recent partnership with PGA, James has been all over the news in the world of golf. He recently launched a golf-focused YouTube channel and had to reveal his dream YouTube golf team.

I’m starting a YouTube golf channel. I gotta pick four of my teammates or former teammates. Pick a Dwyane Wade. That’s one. Pick a Kevin Love – two and JR Smith.

Several former and current NBA players have gotten into golf in the last few years. Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley play the sport regularly and recently ended their feud over a game of golf. Stephen Curry is another player who makes time to play golf and even welcomed James to the sport.

Since taking an interest in golf, the 41-year-old is often seen playing it during his free time. He was seen playing with his son, Bronny James, in the offseason last year. This summer, he has gotten others to play with him, and he enjoyed his vacation before the 2026-27 campaign got underway.

LeBron James and the PGA Tour have partnered for a golf event

Golf is often seen as an elite sport because of its high costs. However, public courses have been made more accessible, and a lot of younger people have been able to get into the sport over the last few years.

LeBron James launched his own YouTube golf channel. In less than two weeks, he has already crossed 500k subscribers. Considering his popularity and pull, the PGA partnered with him to bring a golf event back to his hometown of Akron, Ohio.

The inaugural LeBron James Family Foundation Invitational at Firestone Country Club is expected to take place in 2027. The event will feature amateurs and pros from the tour’s Pathway to Progression Pro-Bound Five program.

The two-day event will also include off-course mentorship programs. It will open doors for young students to connect with pro golfers who have advanced through the Pro-Bound Five program.

LeBron James had a golf trip with Kevin Love and JR Smith in Scotland in June

James still shares a close relationship with his teammates from the 2016 Cavs roster. They grew closer after delivering the franchise its first and only championship that year.

To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of winning the championship, James, Kevin Love, JR Smith, Channing Frye and Tristan Thompson were all seen playing golf in Scotland. The get-together made a lot of noise because Kyrie Irving was not seen with his former teammates.

It looks like only Love and Smith impressed James with their golf skills, as he named them in his dream team. He also named his Miami Heat teammate, Dwyane Wade. The Heat legend has embraced the sport since his retirement and has clearly caught James’ eye with his golf skills.
