Things have been anything but easy since Ty Lue was promoted to head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers in 2020. Their partnership started well as they reached the Eastern Conference Finals in his first season as head coach.
However, since then, they have been eliminated in the first round three times and missed the playoffs twice, including last season. Their whole project built around Kawhi Leonard as the centerpiece ended in failure. But to make matters worse, the Clippers’ troubles went beyond the court last season.
American rapper Cam’ron shared a video of a sudden run-in with Lue. He started firing questions at the head coach, who was waiting to collect his order at the counter.
The rapper asked him why the Clippers did not try to pursue LeBron James when he was a free agent and about the controversies surrounding Leonard.
You should have tried to get LeBron when LeBron was available. When you was with LeBron.. Boom magic. And what’s going on with Kawhi? They gave money under the table? Thats what happened?

Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers have been caught up in some serious allegations over the past year. Before the start of the previous campaign, it was reported that Clippers owner Steve Ballmer redirected $28 million to his star player. While Ballmer has denied the allegations, many believed that they were circumventing the salary cap.
To add more fuel to the fire, recent investigations showed that there was an undisclosed multimillion-dollar sponsorship with Daktronics as well. In the midst of the whole investigation process, the Clippers traded away Leonard to the Toronto Raptors. However, the move has been put on hold till the investigations are concluded.
The Clippers were one of the few teams not linked to LeBron James
When it was confirmed that LeBron James would be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers after his eight-year stint, a number of teams lined up to sign him. He was linked to his former teams – Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat, and also the Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers and a few more.
In the end, he signed with the 76ers on a two-year deal. His agent, Rich Paul, revealed that multiple teams contacted him regarding James’ future. But one of the few teams not linked to him at all was the Clippers.
Considering that Ty Lue and James have history together, Cam’ron expected the franchise to go for the 41-year-old. Lue and James worked together for three seasons in Cleveland. During their time together, they led the Cavs to three NBA Finals and won a championship in 2016. Their 2016 title run was for the history books.
However, the Clippers have hit the reset button and are looking to rebuild their squad for the future. Hence, it made no sense to go for James, who is at the back end of his career. Another possible reason could be that James played for their crosstown rivals.
Darius Garland on playing under Ty Lue
Darius Garland joined the Clippers at the trade deadline this year when they traded James Harden to the Cavs. He made 19 appearances for his new team and helped them finish at ninth place in the Western Conference standings. He was building a strong on-court relationship with Leonard, but the Warriors beat them in the Play-In Tournament.
In a recent interview with HoopsHype. Garland opened up on playing for Lue.
It’s super cool, because I’ve actually watched him in 2016. I told him I wanted to play a little bit like Kai [Kyrie Irving] and how he played in 2016 in that Finals run. So actually seeing his vision actually work, trying to implement it into my game. It’s going to be pretty interesting how he tries to fit it in. But I’m super excited.

The Clippers are at a precarious moment after Leonard’s move to the Raptors has been put on hold. If the move does not happen, he will play for the Clippers next season.
