“When you coach your son’s team…” LeBron James hilariously plays into rumors of JJ Redick as new Lakers coach

LeBron James and JJ Redick

The Los Angeles Lakers star, LeBron James and ex-NBA player JJ Redick shared a hilarious moment on a recent podcast. Redick on the Mind The Game podcast was in a conversation with James regarding 3-pointers being crucial in the game.

Redick cheekily stated that three-pointers are ‘all-important’ in games. However, James thought to make this conversation a bit funny when he mentioned Redick coaching his son’s team.

When you coaching your son's team, is it more 3s or less 3s when you're coaching your son's team(laughs).
LeBron James replied

This was some kind of a subtle troll made by James towards Redick, both seemed to enjoy the joke. James has always been a sort of funny character on and off the pitch at times. In addition, there’s a lot of ongoing speculation going around that JJ Redick may be the Los Angeles Lakers’ new head coach.

According to the NBA community, this may be one of the reasons why LeBron James has been so close with Redick recently. However, no definitive decision has been made yet regarding the LA Lakers’ head coach position but it will be intriguing to see who the Lakers appoint shortly.

Former NBA player shuns JJ Redick to Lakers head coach shouts

The Los Angeles Lakers head coach position is currently vacant after they sacked Darvin Ham recently. This decision to sack Ham was taken due to their poor loss against the Denver Nuggets in round 1 of the NBA playoffs. On the contrary, ex-NBA player JJ Redick’s name has come out as a surprising option for the Lakers’ head coach position.

However, before the Redick-to-Lakers rumors gain traction, former Lakers player and three-time Sixth Man of the Year winner Lou Wiliams believes JJ isn’t the best candidate for the position.

There’s no chance that JJ Redick is going to be able to command that locker room. Yeah, him and LeBron, sitting and drinking wine together, breaking down plays but it is different when 20,000 people screaming at you and you gotta 11 other players you gotta manage as well.
Lou Williams said on the Run It Back podcast

JJ’s name has surfaced on the shortlist disclosed by Shams Charania, an NBA insider. Shams claims that Redick, Tyronn Lue, Charles Lee, Mike Budenholzer, and Kenny Atkinson are among the early favorites to become the Lakers’ head coach. It remains to be seen how this story unfolds in the upcoming weeks/months.
