“So f***ing mad at the same time!” – LeBron James LAMENTS lost partnership with Kyrie Irving
LeBron James and Kyrie Irving formed one of the league’s most successful duo ever.
LeBron James and Kyrie Irving
LeBron James recently expressed his admiration and frustration regarding his former teammate Kyrie Irving on the “Mind The Game” podcast with JJ Redick. James praised Irving’s exceptional skills, calling him a wizard on the court, and expressed pride in his continued growth and success. However, he also admitted feeling angry that they were no longer teammates.
LeBron and Kyrie played together for three years on the Cleveland Cavaliers, making three consecutive NBA Finals appearances and winning a championship in 2016. Their partnership was one of the most dynamic duos in NBA history, combining LeBron’s all-around greatness with Kyrie’s scoring prowess and clutch performances.
I will call Kyrie the wizard all the time. Like there was nothing on the basketball floor that Kyrie couldn't do. And sitting here watching it, you know, I'm like, I'm playing like so f***ing happy and so proud and to watch him and continue his growth and whatever the case may be. And at the same time, I'm so f***ing mad at the same time that I am not his running mate anymore. So I'm like, I just remember those times.LeBron James said
LeBron’s comments may be seen as a message to the Los Angeles Lakers, who had the opportunity to sign Kyrie Irving this offseason but opted not to. Instead, they retained younger talent and prioritized future flexibility. Irving has been exceptional in the playoffs, leading the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2011.
As Kyrie prepares to face the Boston Celtics in the Finals, LeBron can’t help but wonder what might have been if they were still teammates, although the Lakers tried to reunite him. Their history of success and complementary playing styles make it easy to imagine the Lakers making a deeper playoff run with Irving in the lineup.
LA Lakers passed on chance to pair LeBron with Kyrie
The Los Angeles Lakers made a strong offer to acquire Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets, contrary to popular belief. According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the Lakers’ pursuit was aggressive, and they offered a significant package of assets. However, they ultimately failed to land Irving, who was traded to the Dallas Mavericks instead.
The Mavericks’ package included Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, an unprotected first-round pick in 2029, and two second-round picks. The Lakers’ reluctance to put more on the table allowed the Mavericks to outbid them, and now Dallas is just four wins away from winning the championship.
The Lakers’ missed opportunity to pair Irving with James has sparked feelings of regret and “what ifs” within the organization. With James likely to return next season, the Lakers may have let their best chance at another championship slip away.
