LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have extended their winning streak to six games after an impressive 129-119 win over the Dallas Mavericks led by former Lakers player Anthony Davis at Crypto.com Arena on Friday.
Luka Doncic put in a sensational performance and continues to make a case for his first league MVP as he put up 35 points, five rebounds and 11 assists. Austin Reaves, who is currently a candidate for the Most Improved Player award, led the scoring with 38 points.
LeBron James, who is making only his fourth appearance of this season after missing the first 14 games due to injury, added 13 points to go along with five rebounds and seven assists as he continues to work his way back into top condition. The Lakers forward is playing in an unprecedented 23rd season in the NBA. It is a new role for James as for the first time in his career, the squad is not built around him but around his teammate, Doncic.
Anthony Davis, who was himself returning to court after missing the last 14 games due to a calf injury had a stat line of 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and three blocks in game of two halves for the Mavs. Before the start of the game, James playfully gave Davis a light nudge which brought a smile to his Davis’ face but not much of a reaction.

It was a battle between championship teammates James and Davis, who had won the title together for the Lakers in 2020.
Austin Reaves records his fifth 30-point game of the season
James has always been a believer of Reaves’ game. The 27-year-old went undrafted in the 2021 NBA draft but ended up signing a two-way contract with the Lakers. Since then, there has been a steady growth in Reaves’ game.

Following the win, James spoke about Reaves who recorded his fifth 30-point game of the season.
Nothing. How long ago did I tell you AR can fu**ing play ball?
LeBron James when asked what Austin Reaves does that impresses him:

The Lakers guard has been the story of the season for the Lakers as he is currently averaging 28.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game. Reaves along with Doncic have formed one of the best offenses in the NBA during the absence of James at the start of the campaign.
LeBron James heaps praise on Nikola Jokic
Nikola Jokic has been doing what he does best. Dominating games and stacking up triple-doubles. The Denver Nuggets center is averaging a triple-double so far this season recording 29.1 points, 12.6 rebounds and 11 assists.
While talking about Jokic on ‘Mind The Game’ podcast, James was full of praises for the three-time MVP.
My God. And by the way, it’s not like the old days when everything was dunks or layups. No, he does everything. I have never played against such a dominant, complete player. From passing, shooting, rebounding. There is nothing he cannot do offensively. Absolutely nothing.
🗣️ My God… And by the way, it’s not like the old days when everything was dunks or layups. No, he does everything.

Things have been a bit rocky for the Nuggets lately as the 2023 NBA champions have lost three of their last six games including a loss to the Spurs on Friday night.
