It has been three weeks since LeBron James entered free agency as an unrestricted free agent. It is just the fourth time in his career that he has decided to test the free agency market, and there has been no shortage of clubs lined up for him.

The 2025-26 campaign saw James complete a record-breaking 23rd season in the NBA as he became the first player in league history to cross the 22-season mark. His agent, Rich Paul, even hinted that the 2026-27 campaign may not be his final one.

The NBA world is on its toes as they await an announcement regarding the King’s future. But on Monday morning, James’ former Los Angeles Lakers teammate Patrick Beverley fueled the rumors that James could be making his decision soon. He took to social media and posted:

James and Patrick Beverley were teammates for half a season before the latter was traded to the Orlando Magic at the trade deadline in 2023. While it is unlikely that the two have stayed close since, Beverley still made headlines for his tweet about James’ future. The former NBA star may not be in the NBA anymore, but he is often seen commenting on the current affairs of the league.

The pressure is mounting on James to make a decision soon. Even the NBA Commissioner has commented about how the league is waiting for the four-time champion’s announcement, as they are yet to set the schedule for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, James has maintained silence regarding his future. He seems to be enjoying his time off during the offseason, and he knows he has earned the right to take his time in making the announcement.

Several players have tried to throw their pitches at James over the past two weeks. Many expected an announcement when he made an appearance at the Fanatics Fest in New York, but he was quick to declare that no announcement was going to be made.

Beverley’s post was quick to go viral, and it reached James as well. He posted a video of comedian Kevin Hart on his Instagram story. In the video, Hart says:

I don’t know who needs to hear this… shut the f–k up.

James left a comment that said:

BINGO STF*.

The message was clear and blunt from James to his former teammate. It is not known how Beverley got his information, but James was having none of it and ended the speculation right there. Nobody controls their own narrative better than the 41-year-old.

No timetable for LeBron James to announce his decision

It has been 16 years since “The Decision” from LeBron James. He may be a different player from back then and at a very different stage of his career. The level of hype and attention generated from this whole saga has been more or less the same. That is the level of power and pull James holds, even though he is at the back end of his career.

NBA insider Shams Charania reported that there is no timetable for any announcement from James at the moment.
