An X account that once declared LeBron James would never join the Philadelphia 76ers returned to social media after eight years following news of the NBA superstar’s move to the team.
The account, named “Is Lebron A 76er Yet,” was created in July 2017 as James considered his future with the Cleveland Cavaliers. It remained active for less than a year before posting its final message on July 1, 2018.
“No. He never will be now. Time to deactivate,” the account wrote. The account then went silent for eight years, with no further posts or replies. That changed after James announced his decision to join the 76ers on Friday.
Following the news, the account returned and shared a GIF of actor John David Washington waking up in the movie TENET. The post quickly went viral, receiving more than 18 million views, 620,000 likes, 50,000 reposts, and 1,600 comments in roughly 18 hours.
The account’s return drew widespread attention on X, with users highlighting the timing of the comeback and the fact that the account had been inactive since 2018.
The account’s return came after James chose Philadelphia as his next NBA destination. The 41-year-old left the Los Angeles Lakers after eight seasons and will enter his 24th NBA season with the 76ers.

James has won NBA championships with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Lakers. He now joins a 76ers team that has not reached the NBA Finals since 2001 and has not won the championship since 1983.
I thought it was all over when the season ended. I wasn’t ready to announce it, and I understood I needed time to really decide, but I was almost sure I had played my last game. I was honest at the last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and decide whether I love this game. I still truly love this game, and I have still more to give.…This is my final decision.…Thank you, L.A. Miami will always be loved, and Northeast Ohio will always remain my home.

James won the 2020 NBA championship with the Lakers and became the league’s all-time leading scorer after passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The Lakers acquired Luka Dončić in 2025, but the team’s 2025-26 season ended with a second-round loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
James will now continue his pursuit of another NBA championship in Philadelphia as the 76ers begin a new chapter with the four-time champion.
