Winning a title together bonds a team like nothing else, forging memories of the season’s challenges and the ultimate joy of lifting the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Few understand that feeling better than the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers, who will forever share the highs, lows, and triumph of that unforgettable championship run.
Led by none other than LeBron James, that team was a class in its own right. Notably, many players on that team have either hung up their sneakers or have started their own podcast/YouTube channel. However, the bond between the roster is still going strong. This was completely evident at the New York Knicks vs the Indiana Pacers Game 5 on Thursday.
Kevin Love and JR Smith, two members of ‘that’ 2016 team, got back together at Madison Square Garden following the Pacers vs. Knicks game. The two Cavs veterans jumped all over the court in delight as they gave each other a deep, heartfelt embrace, unconcerned by the cameras. James, a close friend and former teammate, became aware of the heartwarming reunion shortly after the video went viral.

LeBron James posted their video on his story with the caption, “My dogs right there!!”
James led the 2016 team, of course, and he reacts in the same way whenever he sees a member of that team. The majority of the players on that team are like that. Interestingly, Richard Jefferson had disclosed that the Cavaliers’ championship squad still had an active group chat during a recent regular-season broadcast.
Nine years after their spectacular title run, Love also affirmed that the core players remain in contact. Perhaps their close relationship is what first enabled them to defeat the powerful Warriors back in their day. Now, they are enjoying the time of their lives by attending playoff games, appearing on podcasts, and much more.
LeBron James opened up on the 2016 NBA Finals between the Cavs and the Warriors
NBA fans still remember the 2016 NBA Finals between Stephen Curry‘s Golden State Warriors and LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers. There are several reasons why it is historic. James and the Cavaliers‘ heroic recovery from a 3-1 series deficit was the primary one. Cleveland won their first championship in franchise history as a consequence.
Former Cavs star LeBron James made a recent appearance on his ‘Mind the Game’ podcast. He opened up on the moment that changed the stance of the Cavs-Warriors series in Game 5.
Once what happened in Game 5 happened, my guys believed that what I was saying was f**king coming true. Y’all get me back to Game 6, we’ll come back here for Game 7.–Y’all get me back to Game 6, we’ll come back here for Game 7.
LeBron James said
James was a key contributor to the Cavaliers’ historic comeback over the Warriors. James produced 29.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, 8.9 assists, 2.6 steals, and 2.3 blocks per match during the thrilling seven-game series.
"Once what happened in Game 5 happened, my guys believed that what I was saying was f*cking coming true. … They were the better team… [but] we hit a momentum pop."
