Leon Edwards is set to defend his welterweight title against Colby Covington in UFC 296. The two have gone at each other ever since the fight was announced. With ‘Chaos’ putting on his bad-boy character, everyone expected him to unleash verbal wars. As such, Edwards anticipated the same and now made a comparison between Covington and Steve Stifler, a character from the American Pie film series.

In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Leon Edwards previewed his fight with Colby Covington. As such, when asked about his opponent’s fight persona, ‘Rocky’ mentioned that Covington was a typical American jock. Further, he compared him to the comical character Steve Stifler from the American Pie movies. Here is what he said:

He's like a different kind of banter to where I'm from and where I grew up. He just reminds me of a typical American jock. Ever see Stifler from American Pie? He reminds me of Stifler. That kind of person.

Further, in the interview, Leon Edwards stated Covington and he wouldn’t have gotten along even outside of fighting. He reasoned it by mentioning their differences in morale and as a person. As such, Colby said it made it much easier for him to develop the needed animosity towards him. Further, he was ready for the verbal war from ‘Chaos’ at the pressers and said he would outright ignore it.

Leon Edwards won that title by finishing the dominant champion Kamaru Usman. A feat that Colby Covington couldn’t achieve even after fighting Usman twice. ‘Rocky’ knocked ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ out cold via a head kick in UFC 278. Later, he also defended the title successfully against him in their rematch.

Colby Covington and Leon Edwards face off in a heated matchup in UFC 296. Before the clash, Edwards made bold claims about Covington and labeled him a clown. On the other side, ‘Chaos,’ as usual, played his fight character to perfection and started his act of disrespecting his opponent. However, ‘Rocky’ stated that he was focused on the task and mentioned that Covington was just a hurdle on his way to something bigger.

Leon Edwards stated that ‘Chaos’ was inactive and beat old fighters past their primes. As such, he brushed off Covington as just another guy that’s on his way. Further, he mentioned his aspirations of being very active and pursuing a second title next year. Here is what he said:

"I think that guy (Colby Covington) is a clown. But, I'm focused on going out there, taking him out, defending my belt for the second time, just carrying on my journey. He's just another guy that's in my way and I'm going to take him out...Hopefully next year, I can get three (fights) in. I'd love to move up, try and get that middle-weight strap."

Leon Edwards was brimming with confidence after getting hold of the welterweight title. As such, he was confident he would win against Colby Covington and defend his belt for the second time. ‘Chaos’ would be coming into this fight after almost 21 months, and his physical and mental shape would be tested by ‘Rocky.’
