“It’s just longer punishment for Nate than anything,” says Leon Edwards about his match at UFC 262
Nate Diaz
The number three ranked UFC welterweight fighter Leon Edwards is going to face one of the biggest UFC superstars Nate Diaz in his comeback match at the co-main event of UFC 262.
This is going to be UFC’s first-ever five-round co-main event without a championship on the line and Leon Edwards believes five rounds against him means more punishment for Nate Diaz.
Talking about his fight in his latest interview with ESPN, Leon Edwards says, “It’s just longer punishment for Nate than anything, Everyone saying it benefits Nate because when he fought Masvidal rounds four and five were where he was starting to turn on, so we’ll see. If that’s his game plan then it’s going to be a long first three rounds.”
Nate Diaz last fought against Jorge Masvidal for the BMF title and Leon Edwards just fought against Belal Muhammad. Although this fight got stopped due to an accidental eye poke from Edwards still he looked good as ever, even after such a long period of inactivity.
Leon Edwards still believes he is better than anyone in the division
If Leon Edwards would have won the fight against Belal Muhammad he should be facing Kamaru Usman for the Welterweight title. But due to unfortunate things happening in that fight he accepted Nate Diaz’s fight.
Now with a win against Nate Diaz, he will look forward to challenging the winner of Kamaru Usman vs Jorge Masvidal 2 fight. Edwards added, “I’ve never been stopped, never been submitted, never been knocked out, so I don’t understand what difference it will make,”
“I’m coming in there to hurt him, I’m coming in there to put him away, I’m coming in there to prove that I am levels above these guys. I truly believe that. I think my combinations of punches, elbows, and kicks are going to hurt him. My grappling, my cardio, I just think I’m the better man in all areas.”
