One could hardly forget how badly things ended for veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers in his debut season with the New York Jets. Entering the most-awaited season-opening game against the Los Angeles Rams, the quarterback hit the ground sustaining a severe injury to his Achilles, which further became a season-ending injury after just four snaps of 2023.

After spending all of last season in rehab, Rodgers has now recovered and charged up to compensate for his absence last season. However, the defensive back Leonard Floyd, whose sack caused Rodgers’ Achilles rupture, will again face him in the opening week as he signed with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason.

Floyd shared that he understood the emotions of the fans amid the criticism. Still, he knew he wasn’t trying to hurt the veteran quarterback intentionally, especially since Rodgers is his favorite to go up against. Nonetheless, it only motivated the 49ers’ newly-acquired defensive star to destroy his opponents again in the season opener.

Jets fans sent death threats to Leonard Floyd following Aaron Rodgers’ injury

Injuries are known to be common companions to the world of sports, many players even lose their careers over this while many come out even stronger. Regardless, suffering a torn ACL at the age of 40 isn’t easy, neither on the body nor the mind. That’s why, fans took it more personally when four-time NFL MVP, who was carrying the whole Jets’ offense on his shoulders, went down after being sacked by Floyd.

While talking about the criticism and backlash he received from fans during his podcast appearance, he revealed fans even gave death threats to him as well as his family.

I hope you die, I hope something happens to your family. It was just a whole bunch of different things in my inbox. And I'm like dang I'm just playing football, I'm not trying to hurt him.

Enduring such a level of backlash from the fans isn’t easy on anyone, but Floyd knew it wasn’t totally about him and so to many extent, he tried comprehending the emotions of fans. But at the end of the day, he reflected that he would choose his team over everyone else, and if targeting Rodgers would do that, he wouldn’t back down.
