Lewis Hamilton is in the United States for the upcoming Miami Grand Prix. It is the first of the three Formula 1 rounds in the US this season. As the IWC brand ambassador, Hamilton attended the IWC F1 event in Miami. He is also busy fulfilling his media duties. In an interview on Thursday, Hamilton expressed his interest in NASCAR.
The Briton confessed that he would love to try NASCAR someday. But there is no need to get excited, as he doesn’t see it happening anytime soon. The seven-time world champion does not have much to accomplish in Formula 1. Apart from his world titles, Hamilton has the most wins, pole positions and podium finishes. However, the 38-year-old loves challenges, and NASCAR might just be the thing for him.
Lewis Hamilton stated, “I did a car swap with Tony Stewart years ago, which was fun. I’d love to try it at some stage. It’s not a dream for me to go race another series, but I am an admirer. I’m a fan of racing and other sports. So I would like to try it.” Hamilton and the three times NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart swapped cars back in 2011 at Watkins Glen.
Lewis Hamilton wants to try MotoGP again

If Hamilton were to join NASCAR, he would not be the first Formula 1 driver to do so. Former F1 world champions Kimi Raikkonen and Jenson Button participated in a Cup Series race at the iconic Circuit of the Americas this season. Button finished 18th and Raikkonen 29th. Though it was not the most ideal finish, it was a good experience for the drivers.
Lewis Hamilton also expressed his interest in other forms of racing. The Mercedes star stated, “I’d love to swap with Valentino Rossi and try Moto GP. I sometimes watch IndyCar and would love to try one of those at some stage. But right now my focus is solely on Formula One, and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.”
Hamilton’s contract with Mercedes expires at the end of the year. There is suspense over the renewal, though it should go through shortly. Hamilton feels he is in his prime and has more to offer.
The Briton is massively driven and will fight for his eighth title. There is no stopping him. But Mercedes will have to provide a car capable of winning championships. Lewis Hamilton has a mountain to climb but if anyone can do it, it is him.
